UPDATE: Max has a great foster-to-adopt home lined up pending home check. Further updates to follow.
Meet Max
Max is a 7 month old mini bull terrier who currently weighs about 25 pounds. He is very affectionate and sweet. He is a high energy bully. He was taken for a walk by the couple who evaluated him. With the gentleman, who gave off more of an “I’m in charge” kind of vibe, he walked really good, although he did pull some. With the woman, he was trying to bite the leash, was more nippy and a bit all over the place. She did shorten the lead and he did cut those behaviors out although he did pull quite a bit. They came across two bigger dogs on the walk and Max got very excited, with his tail and backside wagging nonstop. He wanted to kiss them and play with them. He allowed the evaluators to touch him all over with no issues. He does tend to get a bit nippy/mouthy in some situations like when meeting new people. He will still need a little help with potty training as sometimes he goes outside and then comes back in and goes in the house. Max would do well in a home with another similar energy dog that is his size or bigger. Since he is so rambunctious, kids 12 and older only. There is concern otherwise that he could easily knock a child over accidentally and/or be a bit too nippy, where the behavior is misinterpreted because children were involved. He had three training sessions and the trainer feels he is just a typical, young bull terrier. He needs to be in a home where he gets structure and routine. He is not currently crate trained so that would have to be worked on and is important as he can be destructive if left out without supervision. We will only feel comfortable sending him to a home where there has been young bull terrier experience as he is at an age that is critical in how he can turn out down the road. No cats or smaller animals as he does chase the owners chickens and goes after squirrels. We will not place him in a home with a senior dog or a dog who is low energy as we feel it will be unfair to that dog due to Max’s high energy.
