“Dad it’s breakfast time!”

Do you think she’s hungry? It’s no secret I feed raw, but I always make sure there’s a topper of kibble on it. I do this for several reasons.

1. It’s nice to have a bit of variety.

2. I can feed kibble if raw becomes impractical ie holiday, vets etc without the usual stomach upsets.

3. It stops my bowls sticking together when I carry them down the kennels 😂

I use for all my dogs, Trevaaaa gets the puppy, the main dogs get maintenance and Wizzy gets a big handful of working 30 when she’s competing.

Golden girl does it again! 4th place!

Really enjoyable test at North Devon today, a couple of silly handler errors cost us the points, but we still came home with a rosette!

I bloody love this dog!

Getting absolutely savaged by this bully.

Yesterday was a bit special, we had the lovely ladies from Pony Patrol joining our socialisation class for a bit of distraction.
Teaching your dog to behave in situations they may encounter, in a controlled environment, is an essential skill!
Give the girls a follow too, and hit them up for any of your pony party needs!

After our win last weekend we were bumped up to Novice for this test. Entering with no expectations we were going to see what we needed to work on at that standard to be competitive.

A single blind for the first test got us thinking, with the shot to mark it several metres away in the field. She went out well but stopped a little short, a quick push back and she was in the area. Our hunt whistle has been causing issues recently with her stopping to watch me, so a directed her left to avoid it. She picked and delivered nicely to hand.

Second test was a mark across a valley, with a blind of the left. She flew out to the mark, picked and returned with ease. Lining her up on the blind I noted the wind coming from the right so I sent her left hand side of the tree the blind was placed under. She went out straight as a die but the wind appeared the change as I sent her. A quick stop and handle and she was downwind and picking. Delivered to hand again nicely.

3rd test was a walk up, nicely to heel and steady to the shot, Shayne sent his dog first and we waited. Walk on again and it was my mark this time. Learning from last week I took no chances and lined her up as the shot was fired. She took a slightly wide line but a quick handle back into place and she picked nicely.

4th was a long seen and a blind under a tree to the side. She went out strong on the seen, picked and returned, a gave her a quick blast of the recall on the final approach as she was tiring. Lined her for the blind and she goes out well, just a patch of cover halfway and stops, I push back and she goes, coming into the area just downwind of the dummy. I hold my nerve and let her work and she hits the scent. She moves in beautifully but I can only assume she hits the seat of a previous dummy and dismisses it and moves back out again. A little handle to push back in and she winds it, picks and delivers.

Very pleased with her on this higher level of test, I actually believe it suits us a little better as we usually train longer distances, I had to keep stopping her over running the dummies in NDNH.

Absolutely over the moon to walk away with a 2nd place!!

In 6 months we’ll be pushing pheasants off this bank, but for now we’ll use dummy launchers.

Stretching legs at the end of my mock day yesterday.
