A little about Amanda Curtis…when I purchased my off-the-track thoroughbred, Tybee (JC: Theforgottenone), as a coming 5 year old, I was 40 years old and had a modest dream of competing again at the novice level (my quarter horse and I had maxed out at training level about 15 years prior). Over the past 8 years, with a lot of hard work, a patient trainer, and me often pretending to be braver than I am, Tybee and I methodically built a solid partnership, blew past Novice several years ago, and have found enough success at Modified that I now have a crazy new goal of making the big move up to Preliminary before my 50th birthday. As an adult amateur rider trying to balance work/family/horses, I’m so grateful for this unique opportunity to train with Courtney and work together toward my goals.
Dr. Elena Perea is a psychiatrist, and a proud member of Facebook’s Physician Women Equestrians group. She has twin boys (age 15), a very large adolescent dog, and a husband at home in Asheville NC. She loves repurposing racehorses. Her mare Beezie took her around a few Preliminary events, down center line at Third level, and jumpers to 1.10m; Beezie is now showing a teenager the ropes at the lower levels. Elena’s new young horse Diego is adorable, and hopes to follow in his elder sister’s footsteps. Elena hopes to compete at the 2L level as a life goal, and thinks Diego could make that dream come true with Courtney’s help!
