which are more nutritious than pale yolks, right?
Wrong.
The colour of yolks is dependent on what your hens
eat and will change throughout their laying time. Hens
that spend the majority of their time free-ranging will
typically lay darker yolks. Feed them some leafy
greens that this will turn their yolks a dark yellow too.
If you're after bright mid coloured yolks, feed mainly
treats of corn. Feeding wheat or barley will result in
paler yolks.

Pellets or mash? There’s no nutritional benefit from feeding one or the other to your hens. Hens that are being kept confined due to avian flu lockdown may like mash more than pellets as it takes longer to eat and gives them more to do.
Similarly, in cold weather, a warm mash may provide some welcome comfort to your flock.
I always feed layers pellets. For me it’s simpler as I’ve such a large flock. Mash can create waste if not eaten the same day; whereas pellets I store in a metal IKEA bin (metal as a plastic one mice can still get to!) and use as I need.
