I'm happy to officially announce that we have added to our small herd. Mica Stites and I bought a cute, "little" Thoroughbred mare, Yesterday's Kisses. We're still trying to find a good barn name for her. Be looking for pictures of her. She arrives tomorrow (Thursday). :)

We're getting the been ready for winter... auto waterers and hydrants need new rubber o rings and valves, building a tack room and making the stalls ready for occupants. I'll post updated photos when I can... other photos are of the paddocks and roundpen. (FB wouldn't let me post the video of the pasture with the pics, so that'll have to be separate)

Our farm is moving! We closed on a property today just North of Manhattan, so we're actually closer to town than we have been. Stay tuned for changes we make!

Interesting back position and movement info....

The spinal column extends from the back of the head to the tip of the tail. Each bone has a small joint allowing flexible movement. When the head comes up it is natural for the back to drop down unless the core muscles have been strengthened correctly. This is the process of teaching the horse to collect without the back dipping down thus maintaining strength throughout the body under a rider and protecting joints for long term health.

Well, Drixi hit a milestone in her life today. We, finally, dropped her off at my Dressage trainer's barn for Dressage 101. It was comparable to dropping your firstborn off for their freshman year of college. With all the excitement, dread, pride, uncertainty, love and "emptiness" that comes with such a dropoff. Of course i forgot to take pictures, but i'm sure I'll post some as she learns and grows... 💜🐴

Happy birthday Maggie lady! Maggie is 21 years old as of last Tuesday. I didn't get a chance to take pictures and make a post, so i'm doing it now. She's an off the track thoroughbred and enjoying her retired life of luxury! She's a sweet girl, who loves to be around others (people or horses). Her favorite treat is a carrot, though apples, peppermints and oat cookies are acceptable. Her best friend is Drixi and they love to run around the pasture as fast as they can and to graze.

This day, 5 years ago, this girl entered the world. I would see her picture 3 days later (while at a horse show with my IHSA team) and instantly fall in love with her. She met me 5 months later and she instantly fell in love with me. She is steady and confident and curious. I am so blessed to know her and have her and I'm lucky enough to work with her. Happy birthday Drixi!
