So, you’re just “Starting Out” on your equestrian journey. You want to give it a go … but not sure whether its dressage, jumping, endurance, eventing or para for you? Or perhaps a combination? No need to make your mind up so soon, as our Introductory Membership gives you access to all our 5 disciplines for one flat fee. This is a membership that currently exists, but is not widely known about. So, if you’re a grassroots rider, having easy and simple access to multidisciplinary competitions might just be what you are after. You can do lower-level competition across all 5 disciplines for an all-up annual fee of $54.30 per rider. (No horse registration is required at the levels described in the infographic.) Just sign up via our website and you’ll be ready to go this coming season! Thanks to the Strengthen & Adapt Membership Group for bringing this option into focus. (Note that there are also other options that accompany the introductory membership which allow access to higher levels of competition e.g. graded level 1 dressage, CCN 80 + 95 eventing but they cost a bit more). I’m seeing so many victims at the moment!
Hay is your best friend at this time of year ☺️

We are hearing of too many accidents!

The regular rainfall combined with high night-time temperatures means grass everywhere is going bezerk!

We know this translates to troubles for horse owners. What it means is that you can’t count on your horse being the same today as he was yesterday.

TAKE HEED of the little signs! If you can see, or have a feeling your horse isn’t ‘right’ then DON”T GET ON! And don’t let your child get on! It’s that simple!

You wouldn’t get into a vehicle with a driver who is on ‘P’ - it would put your life in danger………

There will be uncharacteristic signs – the following are examples: spooking at things he is familiar with, being titchy, eyes on stalks, head in the air, pulling back, fidgety about being saddled, hard to bridle, won’t stand for mounting – you get the drift!

The horse is not ‘being naughty’ – he can’t help it because his nervous system is malfunctioning. This means all his senses are on high alert, his skin is hyper-sensitive, his eyesight is affected, his muscles are tight. Things feel different to him. He loses the ability to think and is reactive to things going on that wouldn’t normally bother him and sometimes is barely aware of your presence!

When he is functioning normally he will have a ‘look’ or a little shy and get over it quickly and carry on – but when he is affected a little shy can escalate into a bucking fit and they keep bucking long after you have hit the deck!

It is a bad idea to think you can ‘ride through it’ no matter how good a rider you are– there is a big difference between a horse who is a bit fresh and a horse who is on the brink of exploding. All it needs is something that gets the adrenaline going……….

Since in this state they become extremely claustrophobic – it is best not to tie them up or put them in a horse -float/trailer. Recipe for a wreck!

Get them off the grass and onto hay, leave them alone and WAIT until they are back to their normal, co-operative selves! Beats saying ‘shoulda’…..

Float training today for Sarge.
Sarge has traveled on floats and trucks his whole life but has been a bit hit n miss lately with his approach to the situation.
This is him absorbing/processing his session/lesson.
Very important to let them have time organise the content.

Hi hay feeders.

When I calcualte an individual nutrition programme for a client I will tell you exactly how much hay to feed.
I reccomend hay nets, particualry 'gutz busta' nets. Less wastage = less $
A net keeps your horse chewing for waaaay longer. This chewing produces saliva, which has a role of moving the digesta thru the digestive tract, and the saliva contains calcium which helps buffer the foregut linging against gastric acid, which helps prevent ulcers!

The horse will also produce happy hormones whilst chewing = win win for horse and owner!

PS I have never had a horse put its foot thru a small holed net from gutz busta and they have a large variety of options! Gutzbusta Slow Feed Hay Nets NZ
