Have you gotten caught up in the Instagram comparison trap?

What if we put our energy towards playing the long game, instead of looking at the results of others ⁉

Friendly reminder: Instagram is a marathon, not a sprint! ⭐⭐

Often when we see others with great results, we don't see the struggles they've been through to get to that point. Maybe we don't see the time they spent producing content with few views or little engagement.

My best advice:

⭐Keep your WHY in mind and focus on creating content and trying new ideas to find what works for your account (and what you love doing!)
⭐Don't forget to take breaks when you need them!!

Can you relate? What helps you get out of the comparison trap?

19/10/2020

When I started Hammy's Instagram account, I tried A.L.L. the things! Any tip I found, I tried.

And you know what?

A good majority of them flopped. Because I wasn't implementing them properly. Because the tips were outdated. Because they just weren't valid for a pet account!

I could have grown Hammy's account so much faster if I'd had a guide and a supportive community.

That's why I created The Pet Influencer Society.

It's a membership where I show you what's going on in the Instagram world and help you understand how it applies to your pet account. It's also a collaborative community who support each other, cheer each other on and help each other through the obstacle course that is social media!

Join us! Enrollment is open until Tuesday, October 20 at 9:00 p.m. PT

I know a lot of us focus on Instagram, but who has a page for your pet?!
I would love to see it so drop me a link!

Reels are not going away any time soon, so, if you haven't started using them - this post is for you!

Not sure yet what Reels are? ⁣

Reels are short-form videos that you can add music, text, and stickers to. Think of them like an IG story that can live on your feed forever [or like a TikTok video]. ⁣

Reels are being shown on the Explore tab to people who Instagram expects will like your content. It’s a free way to get your content in front of potential new followers!⁣

My favorite part: Reels have a longer life than static posts and continue to get views for days (and even weeks) after posting 🙌⁣

👇 What questions do you have about Reels?⁣ I'd love to help!

What does "success" on Instagram look like to you?

05/10/2020

Want to know the big secret to being successful with reels? 🤭

Just keep creating them!!

Sure, there are some technical tips and tricks that can make your reels do better (and I’ll be going over all of these in my free challenge starting next Monday)…

But the most important action we can take is to simply keep creating and practicing.

The fun part about a reel is that you never know which one is going to do well, so the more you reels you put out there, the better chance you have of one taking off! 🚀

I’m excited about my upcoming Grow Your Reach with Reels challenge because it’s going to be all about taking action. Each day I’ll be sending out an email with a tip and a small action to take that day.

With reels, small actions can lead to BIG results 🙌

You can sign up for FREE at the link in my bio!

Are you in?? Let me know in the comments if you’ve signed up! 👇

P.S. Everything is more fun with a friend 👯 Tag a friend who you want to be your accountability buddy for the challenge!

What are you most looking forward to in October?

I've got some cool plans for my business that I'll be sharing over the coming weeks.

What about you?

28/09/2020

Do you believe that self-care is NOT selfish?

Here's what I believe:

You don't always have to be "on". It's ok to take a day off, or the weekend even! Growing your pet account is a marathon, not a sprint.
So pace yourself and take care of yourself.

25/09/2020

I can’t be the only one who feels like they’re constantly battling an Instagram addiction.

Have you watched The Social Dilemma yet? One of the most striking parts to me was when they said there are only 2 industries that refer to their consumers as “users” - illicit drugs and social media. WOAH.

As someone who’s running a business about Instagram, I spend a lot of time on the platform, and that won’t be changing.

But this time around, I’m doing it differently. I’m working on being more conscious and intentional with the time I spend here — and the time I don’t.

You see, I didn’t do this with my pup’s account .me — and it had a really negative impact on me. I became so consumed with growing the account that I wasn’t prioritizing my own mental health. I was “on” all the time… until I reached a breaking point where I couldn’t be on anymore. To be honest, I still don’t feel mentally ready to jump back into that account yet.

The good news: there are actions we can take to help us become more conscious and in control of our social media consumption.

Here are 4 actions you can take today to preserve your mental health as a social media user:

1. Turn off notifications — this is probably the lowest effort and biggest impact action you can take! I have all notifications turned off and it’s incredibly freeing.

2. Set a time when you’ll put away your phone for the night and stick to it — and then be aware of every time you still go to grab for your phone without thinking (without judgment — this will help you become more conscious of your habits)
3. Take scheduled days off when you don’t even open Instagram — yes, this is OK!
4. Share the boundaries you’re setting and encourage others to do the same — the more of us who work towards becoming conscious social media consumers, the better off we’ll all be. Let’s lead by example.

Feeling inspired by this post? Please SHARE it to your stories or with a friend. You never know who might need to hear this.

Are you using this easy and fun strategy to reach more accounts? 👇

[SAVE this post for when you need content ideas later!]

Happy to all my doods and doodle parents out there! 🐶

Did you know there’s a social media holiday on almost every day of the year?

I’m partial to today’s holiday since my pup Hammy - and the inspiration for my business - is a doodle! 🤍

You’ve probably seen these holidays around. There’s seriously a holiday for everything from National Margarita Day (Feb. 22) 🍸 to (Aug. 16).

Sure, sometimes they can feel silly, but participating in social media holidays can be a great way for your account to reach new people.

How? Think of all the eyes 👀 looking through that hashtag on that day.

Last year we posted a picture of Hammy wearing a taco bandana on 🌮 and commented on it!

PRO TIP: When you’re creating your monthly content plan, look up the social media holidays for that month and include ones that are relevant to your account 📅 (Hint: almost anything can be if you get creative!)

Plus, it will be one less day that you have to wonder, “What am I going to post today?” 🙌

Do you ever participate in social media holidays? Have you had any success with them so far?

I have a confession to make…⁣

[SHARE this post to your stories to let us know if you’re more of a 1 or 2 😂 & tag me!]⁣

Even though I hear so many Instagram experts talking about content planning, and I even recommended it to my clients and members… ⁣

I haven’t been doing it myself 🙈⁣

If you’re anything like me, you know how stressful and even overwhelming it can be when it’s time to post. Picking out the picture or making a Reel, finding inspiration for something to write about, then actually writing it…⁣

I always have the best intentions to prepare my posts in advance, but that just hasn’t worked out 🤷‍♀️⁣

Starting this new account has been a fun opportunity for me to put into practice all the things I’ve learned about Instagram over the years - starting with content planning.⁣

To help myself get going with this, I created some polls in my Instagram stories about what kind of content YOU would like to see. Please check them out - I would love to hear from you!⁣

BTW, you can totally use this idea for YOUR account! Use your stories to ask your followers what they want to see from you, what they want to learn about, etc. ⁣

I love using both the poll and question features to get a variety of responses, including things I didn’t even think of!⁣

Are you a planner when it comes to Instagram, or do you scramble to do everything at the last minute and hope it works out for the best?⁣

PS - Is content planning something you’d like to learn and see more of? Let me know if it would be helpful to share more BTS of my process!

14/09/2020

Do you allow yourself to show up authentically on Instagram? Or do you tend to just share the good stuff?⁣

A few months into running our .me account, I decided to get away from trying to portray the “picture perfect” dog life and to start sharing more of what it’s like to be a first time dog mom. (Spoiler alert: it’s not always easy!)⁣

I truly believe this authenticity is a big part of what helped our account grow into what it is today - a community. ⁣

An authentic share is relatable. It creates deep connections. It may even inspire someone else to show up a bit more authentically themselves. And don’t you think we need more of that these days?⁣

A few days ago my grandpa passed away. Honestly, it’s been a really difficult time for me, especially with all the restrictions in the world right now.⁣

Even though I spend a lot of time on social media, I tend to keep some things private, and I really questioned if this was something I wanted to share.⁣

I went back and forth about it, but I decided to anyway.⁣

I can’t believe how many people I’ve deeply connected with ever since. I’ve learned more about people’s families and lives in the past few days than I have in months or even years.⁣

This is a great reminder for me to keep showing up as the leader of the community I want to create.⁣

As a pet influencer or a business owner - are you doing the same? What’s something you could share about on your account to create more community?⁣

Why should YOU be posting Reels?

Reels are being shown on the Explore tab to people who Instagram believes will be interested in your account. It's a free way to get your account in front of potential followers!

Hello, organic growth!

Reels are also a great way for your current followers to get to know more about you, your pet, your personality and the life behind the account.

Possibly my favorite part: Reels have a longer life than static posts and continue to get views for days (and even weeks) after posting.

So... will you be posting a Reel this week? Share a link to your first, or one you're especially proud of!

13/09/2020

Friendly reminder: Instagram is a marathon, not a sprint 🙌 ⁣

Are you playing the long game, or getting caught up in the daily comparison trap? [You’re going to want to SAVE this post for later!]⁣

When you catch yourself comparing your account to others ( # of followers, likes, views) - remind yourself WHY you started your account in the first place. ⁣

If I had to guess... You probably didn’t start it so you could stress out about how many followers you have 😂🤷‍♀️ ⁣

With your WHY in mind, you can put your blinders on so you can focus on creating content and trying out new ideas to find what works (+ what’s fun for you!)⁣

This is what helps an account grow over time.

Most importantly, don’t forget to take breaks when you need them ✌️

Can you relate to this? What helps you get out of the Instagram comparison trap?

12/09/2020

Nothing matters more on Instagram than relationship building. ⁣

Responding to comments, engaging with other accounts, being active in your DMs - these are the real secrets to growing an account! 🙌 ⁣

BTW - these actions can also take the most time. ⁣

I usually squeeze in some time over the weekend to catch up on comments, engage in DMs, and make some new connections while watching we’re watching TV. ⁣

Do you set aside time for engagement and relationship building?

11/09/2020

Do you prioritize taking time to rest & recharge? Or do you struggle with this, like me? 🙈⁣

A few months back, I took a long and unplanned Instagram hiatus on my .me account. ⁣

I went from posting almost every day to not posting for months 😬⁣

It wasn’t something I wanted to do or felt good about doing, but I had reached the point of burnout. ⁣

Does this sound familiar to anyone else? (I hope not!)⁣

These days, especially as I’m starting my own business, I’m being more intentional about taking time to unplug and recharge. ⁣

Some of you may know that I lost my grandpa this week 😔 And while my brain wants to distract myself with work, I’m forcing myself slow down for a few days. ⁣

Everything will still be here in a few days after I’ve taken time to grieve and process. ⁣

I rescheduled a live workshop I had planned for this weekend (I never reschedule things!) — because I know that I need to take care of myself in order to show up fully for others. ⁣

The same is true when it comes to posting and showing up on Instagram. ⁣

You don’t always have to be on. It’s ok to take a day or the weekend off. This is a marathon, not a sprint.⁣

Self-care is NOT selfish. 🤍⁣

How will you be recharging this weekend? ✨
