Slate 1 year old Bernese mountain dog 130lbs Jumping-Barking-Counter Surfing Anxiety - Restlessness - Pulling Slate recently pulled so hard he tore his handler’s lat muscle. Chevy! Virtual Client Chevy recently was trained at an extensive board and train program but his humans were never educated on what to do to maintain his training. His behavior slowly regressed to a tipping point where his owners needed help getting him under control. We dove strait into owner education, tool education and establishing a clear line of communication. This video is the product of: Intro to E Collar The dog owner has primed the dog to go to kennel, after the dog proved repetitively that they knew what command they were working on, the dog owner removed the verbal queue and communicated with the dog through E-collar stim to complete the implied command. They been marked the behavior while also removing the ecollar stim and rewarded. Rocky Rocky’s handlers want him above and beyond. They have completed two months of daily training and now we enter into their third month where 100% of the time, the dog will be offleash, at home, on walks, in parks, on hiking trails, in the woods, at cafes and on busy downtown streets. Most dog owners want a dog trainer to address the number one reason why they are reaching out, head on and not have to change any other aspect in their life. That’s not how good dog training works. Good dog training will help you with your problem; moreover it will not only treat the symptoms but it will also help identify and correct the root cause. In other words we are making sure not only to stop the reactivity but assess areas in Chevy’s life that improvements can be made to set him and his family up for success. In this owner/dog relationship we assessed that the communication, structure in the house and on walks and overall consistency were not aligned with the goal. Immediately we: Improved how we communicated to Chevy. Temporarily tightened up structure and routine. Provided rewards and consequences for his behaviors. Made behavior change a priority and started training on a daily basis. This dog owner is now taking the role of a dog handler. In one training session on their own, after three attempts of stopping reactivity towards the doorbell and knocking at the door, the dog owner successfully experienced calmness and silence in that scenario and was beside themselves. Deuce 9 month old Boxer Today Deuce was able to experience that off leash freedom that every dog owner craves. It is the most respectful thing we can give to a dog. It is earned. Now that Deuce knows how to return to his handler when called, he can experience and off leash life when his handler decides it is appropriate and safe for him to do so. 90% of having a dog off leash is learning to calmly do the right thing to get your dog back when you call them. Tori 2 year old Pit Mix Tori’s handlers reached out to VGDT due to her Reactivity, on walks and through their windows of their home. During he first month of training we taught her handlers how to create functional obedience commands as well as stop the unwanted behaviors. After a lot of hard work Tori is now able to do her commands during the second month around other dogs. Kingston 8.5 month old Dutch Shepherd This is our second lesson with Kingston. During lesson 1 he took 40 minutes to top being aggressive then we trained some basic commands. This lesson he was aggressive for 3 seconds, then reactive for 1 minutes and then we trained for the other 58 minutes. We worked on impulse control (the ability not to respond to things in your environment) we worked on duration, sit, heel, here, kennel and worked all the way up to 25 foot place command! This was huge for Kingston and his Handlers. They haven’t been able to have any guest or servicemen over the house since bringing him home. Kingston 8 month old Dutch Shepherd Kingston is a very high powered dog. He is very smart, energetic and capable. He has a past of positive only training: scent work, agility, puppy kindergarten, puppy socials and recall training. Astro German Shepherd 1 year 10 month old Astro’s owner heard about VGDT, how we handle aggression, reactivity and traveled from Long Island to learn and overcome their dog’s behavior and shortcomings in their handling skills. Astro has a big issue with strangers or other dogs coming near him or his handler. People haven’t been able to visit the home in MONTHS - zero visitors. Astro has gaps in his previous obedience foundation due to lack of rules, boundaries, expectations and clear communication. Mango 14 months Coonhound Mix Mango barks at people and other dogs. She has gotten out of their home off leash several times running away. She has severe separation anxiety, barking, howling and crying in the kennel at night time and when the owners leave the house. Seeing that their goals are to get Mango to be comfortable at home and in public, calmly get along with their cat, not run away, listen to commands and eventually go for walks/hikes off leash then calmness (mindset) will be one of our major focuses, the others will be heel and recall!
