My mission is to help you learn how to communicate better with your dog. Certified in positive reinforcement and balanced training techniques, I can accommodate any method you prefer. I adhere to both LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) and the Humane Hierarchy methods of dog training. My focus is on pet dog obedience and behavior modification with a dash of competition level obedience for
those clients that want to take it to the next level. I believe it’s important to think of dog training as more than just getting your dog to perform certain behaviors. It’s also about understanding how they learn and communicate and how you can build a stronger relationship through that communication. I’m here to teach you how to become a better dog owner and have the best relationship you can with your best friend. All aspects of training are connected to each other in a complex web of behavior and learning theory. My job is to break this down into small, easy to comprehend parts. When you understand how dogs learn and the underlying reasons for certain behaviors, you will be able to use your training to approach every situation with the confidence that comes with clear communication. It’s frustration-free training that’s fun for you — and your dog!

I try not to play favorites but c’mon look at this cute Samoyed pup, Nova! We worked on basic obedience and she was a rock star! ⭐️ Her mama and papa did such a good job and will continue to do so. Miss you already!

Meet Lola, a Lakeland Terrier that needed some help with basics and obsessive behaviors with running water and the trash being taken out. Management and counter conditioning along with teaching alternate behaviors was what we worked on.

I had the pleasure of working with Archie and Finley (not pictured). We focused on polite door greetings and reactivity while outside. We made some really good progress in 6 sessions!

Meet Max. A Yorkie who would get anxious about people coming near him when he was near Mama or if Mama had human food. We worked on no longer allowing Max to eat human food, resource guarding using counter conditioning, and being able to relax and stay in place while distractions happened in the background as well as impulse control.

Meet Maggie! A sweetheart with lots of love to give. Sometimes the feelings are so big they can’t contain themselves and need to be reminded of proper greetings and mouth control. She’s not super food motivated but LOVES tug so that’s our go to motivator.

Wrapped a 6-week obedience course with the wonderful Riley pup! She and her human other half did such a good job learning the ropes. Since she’s a puppy we spent a lot of time at first learning manners, bite inhibition and how to have restraint. Then we worked on basic obedience and loose leash walking (which she excelled at!).

Wrapped up some behavior modification training with Bo! He was a good boy that gets anxious and nervous easily. With proper medication and training he’s learning the ropes and doing much better at people coming in the house, seeing people, dogs, and squirrels on walks. Lots of desensitization and counter conditioning, obedience, and owner education.

Remy is such a cute little pup (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever) that I helped teach bite inhibition, chewing only appropriate items, jumping, among a handful of other helpful tasks.

Photo dump! Here’s a handful of dogs I’ve worked with this summer and actually remembered to take photos of.
They were all special in their own way and had their own unique issues that needed help. From basic obedience, polite greetings, to fearful reactivity and aggressive behaviors.

Ole had a great time with us this weekend. He loved our squeaky toys and the natural yard. He ran through our mowed paths like they were a race track. We worked on impulse control and jumping up. He’s the most adorable student. 🧡

Meet Tessa, your standard super adorable Corgi! We focused on her resource guarding, reactivity around the car, basic obedience and walking skills. She was wonderful and made some great progress in the 6 weeks I worked with her.

Had the pleasure of watching Ohana over the weekend! She was such a bundle of joy and caught on quickly to some of the house rules like waiting at the door, no jumping, and be calm on the couch.

Ziggy was was really fun to work with as we addressed their reactivity to other dogs and leash walking skills. Here he is just hanging out calmly outside of a dog park in the north loop.

Dakota just wrapped up 6 sessions to work on their overall obedience, walking and reactivity skills. He’s a cute and very quick little Dachshund!

Had the pleasure of working with Livvy and Odessa on their walking together skills.
Started by getting them to learn how to heel individually then started all over again once we introduced both dogs.
Adding a dog is adding a distraction which is something you do after a behavior is learned to help proof and generalize that behavior. Too often we teach the dog something in the house then expect them to understand it in a different and more distracting environment.
We tend to expect too much from our dogs and too little from ourselves.

Had the pleasure of helping Boba overcome their reactivity to seeing other dogs in and around their apartment building. Lots of counter conditioning and engagement training!

Winona is super cute and fun to work with! She needed help with barking and reactivity as well as loose leash walking and other basic obedience skills. She’s made some good progress but there’s always more work to be done. Keep at Winnie and Mom!

Introducing Blue! We spent 6 sessions working on curbing their enthusiasm when interacting with other people. He was a big jumper, nipper and overall lacked impulse control.

Winnie was a pleasure to work with! We focused on polite door greetings, ignoring kids when they are being rambunctious, and loose leash walking skills. She did great with it! Way to go Winnie!

Introducing Echo! He’s a bundle of joy and love. Sure he gets a little too excited with his love for you but he means well and learns quickly that not jumping is the fastest way to belly rubs. He was a pleasure to watch over the weekend and we can’t wait to see him again!

Look at this handsome boy! This is Sully and he’s getting some remedial training on fearful reactivity to people, dogs, and environmental change, prey drive instincts, and impulse control. He’s super sweet once he’s accepted you but can take a little bit to warm up.

Worked with Ushi and Moo again today. Ushi is the puppy and Moo is learning to enjoy having him around while Ushi is learning basic manners. Cute pups are cute!

Had the pleasure of watching Chief this past week! He loves snuggles and chewing on bones. He wanted to be Buddy’s (resident dog) best friend right away but learned that some dogs need more time to be friends. He offered lots of barking, realized that didn’t work, so he offered lots of play bows and roll overs. Finally he realized just laying calmly away from Buddy was the best way to build trust.

Introducing Freja! She learned all about obedience and how to have manners and she did very well. She is playful yet calm, determined but not hard headed, and oh so cute! You’ll be missed!

Had the pleasure of watching Ole for a week. He’s so fluffy and soft, like petting a cloud ☁️ He is definitely a busybody and loves to dissect things and find trash buried in the snow banks. Thanks for the help cleaning up the neighborhood!

Meet Lyla (Boobah), a sweet girl who gets frightened easily. We spent most of our time working on desensitizing, counter conditioning, and building confidence to her triggers of people and dogs. She made really good choices today and chose to disengage with scary things instead of trying to get them to move away with her barking, lunging and biting. Keep at it, Boobah!

Off leash walk with Buddy this morning. Testing our basics and enjoying the day!
Using the Up Down Pattern Game (modified) to help encourage loose leash walking, engagement, and shaping of the heel position. Simple Work-to-Eat Enrichment
Check out Rainy's skills with this simple but effective Work-to-Eat project. By simply putting their breakfast inside a paper bag they need to figure out how to get to it by using their natural instincts. This is very satisfying for them and helps them feel enriched and less likely to want to go eat your shoes!
