I found Charlie’s lost tooth from last year tonight. I forgot I had put it in my ring holder after I found it. I’m going to put it in the heart jar in his memory box that holds his fur clippings.

Another snuggly Gilligan picture from last night 🥰 He’s been especially snuggly since Charlie passed. I think it’s because Charlie was always laying with me and was testy with the younger two. He would frequently swat at them if they entered his space. Spencer is more sure of himself so it didn’t bother him, but Gilligan is more shy so he would run off regardless of me trying to get him to come back. So I think he’s quite enjoying all this unlimited access to me. Spencer is a jealous butt and always pushing him out of the way when I give loves, so I have to make sure that they get equal attention. Both of them are sleeping with me all night. They both start out with me getting loves, then Spencer gets into his spot on the back of my thighs, and Gilligan curls up to spoon with me. Then I grab Piglet and smell him until I fall asleep. It’s as if I have all 3 of my kitties with me every night ❤️

Gilligan had his follow up appointment this afternoon. His bloodwork came back perfect, so the medication cleared all the sludge from his gallbladder! The only thing to address now is his teeth. Spencer needs his done again as well, despite having them done just last year (he has stomatitis). I brush their teeth but the Vet says this usually happens anyway. So I’ll be saving up for that now and making that my next to-do.

I also forgot to update regarding Spencer and the litter boxes. He most likely did NOT have a bladder infection. Most likely he was just dehydrated. The Vet and I both agree it was behavioral, because he stopped as soon as I switched out the litter boxes for high sided litter boxes the day after his appointment, which was too soon for the antibiotic shot to have worked that well. Glad he didn’t actually have a bladder infection for an extended period of time and it was just behavioral!

Gilligan is feeling all better! His symptoms are completely gone. Spencer did end up catching it, but his symptoms weren’t anywhere as bad as Gilligan’s, so I didn’t feel the need to get him antibiotics unless it didn’t go away. I had already started him on the Lysine and Imoquin along with Gilligan, so I waited it out to see if those would treat it. After 5 days he was feeling completely better and symptoms all cleared up. I still have them on both the Lysine and Imoquin. I’ll at least finish the bag of Imoquin (there was a months’ supply), and give the Lysine just as long. When they need to go back to the Vet in the future, I’ll purchase more Imoquin, and start them on both again for another 30 days to hopefully prevent this in the future. I’ll continue giving them the Omega 3 Oils daily as that’s working wonders for Gilligan’s dandruff (I had just started them on this before their appointments).

I haven’t caught anyone on video drinking from the water fountain yet but someone is definitely drinking from it because it was almost empty when I went to wash it after a week, and the water level is dropping again. We live in a very humid climate so it’s definitely not evaporating. Ohhhh and I discovered these treats from Temptations called TenderFills, and they’re PERFECT for sticking Gilligan’s gallbladder medication into! He gobbles it right up!! I no longer have to shove it down his throat I’m so happy and I’m sure he is too!

I’ve been struggling with depression for the last week, especially the last couple of days, really missing Charlie. I can’t think about him or see his picture without crying. It’s why it took me several days to post this update. I’ll try to do better.

Gilligan most likely has an Upper Respiratory Infection like I thought. They gave him an antibiotic injection and sent us home with two supplements to help boost his immune system against URI’s; Lysine and Imuquin. Lysine is given directly from my finger or a plate twice a day, and Imuquin is mixed into one of his meals each day. Gilligan had a URI as a kitten at the shelter, and that’s how he got the ulcer in his left eye. It’s been inactive ever since.

The Tech was perplexed as to how he caught a URI since he’s a 100% indoor cat. I didn’t want to say it but he was there at the Vet’s office THREE times last week, so of course he caught it there 🤦🏻‍♀️ Now I know to use these supplements before and after any Vet appointments in order to hopefully prevent this in the future.

Video I took for the Vet since the other one wasn’t that great. I feel so bad for him 🥺 I really hope it’s just a URI we can clear up with antibiotics 🤞🏼

27/07/2023

Poor Gilligan likely has an Upper Respiratory Infection 😢 He has an appointment for tomorrow to be seen. The video shows a little of what he’s been doing (sound up). It came on suddenly Monday and the Vet had me wait until today before making an appointment. It’s been so hard watching him suffer with this 😞 Hopefully it’s just a URI and antibiotics clear it up quickly 🤞🏼

Gilligan had an ultrasound and an X-ray this morning to determine why his bloodwork was so off; He has "sludge" in his gallbladder due to being dehydrated for some time. The Vet prescribed him a medication to clear out this sludge. Since Spencer was also dehydrated despite me adding water to their food, providing fresh, bottled spring water, cleaning their bowls daily, and not feeding dry food, he recommended buying a water fountain to encourage them to drink more water. I’ve been thinking about getting one for awhile but never could because of Charlie’s expenses. I’ll be ordering one today now that it’s absolutely necessary. Gilligan took his first dose of medication like a champ when we got home. Hopefully that stays true for the remainder of the medication cycle 🤞🏼

A possible explanation for Charlie’s throat mass. Finley and all 3 cats wore Seresto collars for 8 months. I cut them off when this lawsuit came out. It makes complete sense that the mass would develop in the throat. Now I’m concerned about Spencer and Gilligan. Both of their bloodwork are off a lot. I’m waiting for the Vet to call me to explain Gilligan’s, but he chalked Spencer’s up to his UTI and dehydration. Gilligan has more “highs” than Spencer though. He may have a UTI as well, but something more is going on.

DEAR DR. FOX: We purchased Seresto collars for our wirehaired pointing griffons, who were approximately 7 and 8 years old at the initial exposure. We found the collars to be effective against fleas a…

I took Spencer and Gilligan to the Vet this morning (our regular Vet vs Charlie’s), mainly to get Spencer’s bladder checked, but also to get their bloodwork done and rabies updated. Spencer unfortunately didn’t have any urine in his bladder, but they did an ultrasound and didn’t see any stones or anything, and gave him an antibiotic injection anyway. I’m to watch and see if he stops peeing over the side of the litter box. We’ll also see what his bloodwork says. Gilligan wouldn’t let them take bloodwork. He was raised in a shelter from 1 week old to 7 months old, so he’s fairly skittish. They sent me home with Gabapentin to give him tonight and tomorrow morning in order to hopefully calm him down enough to be temporarily sedated while they do his bloodwork. Hopefully that works 🤞🏼

I had to make the incredibly heartbreaking decision to let Charlie go today 💔 The mass in his throat was so large that it extended into his airway and lymph nodes. It was too large to be surgically removed. The only choice to feed him would have been to place a feeding tube. This would just have been prolonging his suffering. I love Charlie more than I can put into words, and would have loved nothing more than more time with him, but I had to put him first. I couldn’t prolong his suffering for my own needs and extremely unlikely odds that steroids would help temporarily. He was already sedated and had been through surgery, but not woken up. I called just near the end of surgery. We decided it was best to do it today while he was still under. I got there as fast as I could while sobbing. They led me back and let me love on Charlie for as long as I wanted. I talked to him, kissed him, pet him, felt his toe beans, and sobbed all over him. I told him thank you for the best 5 years of my life. I asked the vet tech to cut some fur for me. He made sure to get it from my favorite spot, and then get some white fur too so I had both colors. They had already taken a bunch of paw prints for me in different colors. When I was ready, they came over and gave him the shot. I loved all over him again and told him Tiny Tim would be there to greet him. Then they left me with him again. I spent about 5 minutes sobbing into him before I got up. I tucked him into his blanket and kissed him goodbye one last time. I was led into a grieving room and chose Charlie’s paw impressions and urn. I will have him back with me in 7-10 days. Then I returned home with an empty cat carrier 💔 I’ve been sobbing on and off since. I don’t know what to do with myself. Charlie was like having a child. He required tons of care. But he provided so much love in return. He’s hands down the best cat I’ve ever had. I will absolutely never get over losing him. I am broken beyond measure 💔
