Piper was surrendered to a rural VA shelter by her previous owner because "She got bigger than expected and was still growing." She is very sweet and lovable and is doing great with the other dogs in her foster home! We believe Piper was mostly an outside dog before coming to our rescue, as such she is still figuring out this whole "house training" business. She has been doing very well the past few days but we are looking for an adopter that is willing to work on this with her and will be able to either let her out in the yard to potty every few hours or take her on a walk. Laika was an owner surrender due to her owner no longer being able to care for her. She is a very young pup, only 5 months old! In her previous home she lives with a young child and was said be to playful with children although a bit timid with them and older people at first. She is good with other dogs, her previous home had several small dogs. Her previous family described her as shy and timid in general and especially with strangers. Laika needs some time to warm up to you but once she does her personality shines through! She is a sweet pup who need someone to crack through that tough shell. Laika was showing signs of resource guarding over food and toys so will require some behavioral training. She is a very smart pup and will learn quickly. We unfortunately have no idea what his breed is but to us he looks like a Fuzzy Beagle! He might have some shepherd mixed in with him, but for until he gets a bit older we are just going to call him an all american shelter dog! Lionel will be arriving at our foster home on 6/26 so we currently do not know much about him. We do know that he is UTD on all his shots, he is neutered and microchipped. Our shelter partner has told us that he is a typical 4 m/o puppy and loves everyone he meets. He is currently working on house training and crate training and is learning how to walk on a leash. Name: Percy DOB: 11/7/20 Breed: Siberian Husky x German Shepherd Weight: 40 lbs House Trained: Mostly Yes. Crate Trained: Yes Leash Trained: Yes Good with other dogs? Yes Kid Friendly: Yes Good with cats? No. About: Percy is a sweet and gorgeous 7 month old Husky mix who sadly had to be given up by his previous owner. Percy was very loved and well-trained by his previous owner, they unfortunately had a situation where they were no longer able to keep him. Percy is leash trained and walks very well in a harness. He is crate trained and is quiet and well-behaved in his crate unless he is alerting to be let outside. Percy has been doing great with his house-training, he hasn't had an accident inside in months! Percy is very smart and already knows several commands including a verbal and non-verbal command for 'Sit'! He also knows how to 'Lay down' and is in the process of learning 'Stay'. Percy is great with other dogs, kids and adults. He has been very well socialized since a young puppy to be good around people and dogs of all types and ages! He is super friendly and just wants to say 'Hi'! to everyone that he meets. As with most Huskies, Shepherds and other breeds that have a high prey drive, Percy is not a good fit for a home with cats or other small animals. Apply to adopt at: www.nerdypaws.org

Good with other dogs? Yes Good with cats? Not tested Kid Friendly: Yes About: Meet Patches! Patches is about 5 months old. My best guess at his breed is a Staffordshire Terrier or American Bulldog mixed with some sort of Labrador or Shepherd. He reminds me of Chance from Homeward Bound or Petey from The Little Rascals. He is a very sweet and laid back boy. His favorite past time is just hanging out with you! He loves to be close to you and will to sit right next to you and lean on your leg. He has a very calm and gentle demeanor, especially for such a young pup! He does well with other dogs and all people. I think he would be a great fit for a family with kids because of how gentle he is. Patches is UTD on all his shots and has been neutered, all he's missing is a home to call his own.
