We made it to Kentucky yesterday evening to prep and relax a few days before the chaos of The Kentuckiana Cluster and the American Beauceron Club’s National Specialty. Today and tomorrow they can be swamp creatures. Wednesday they have to turn back into show dogs for a day of grooming, health testing, and conformation and obedience matches.
If you are in the Louisville area and are interested in meeting the breed, there will be close to a 100 dogs of all ages and lines in attendance to meet.
While Rally has been our main focus with Raya this year, we’ve been training for a Open Obedience. There’s still some stuff that needs work, but last night she put all the exercises together and I think I may enter her soon.
Rylee took Natchez through his first Rally Novice course at training tonight. These two are such a great team. They will be debuting in the Rally ring soon!
I had one thing holding me back from entering Raya in Open Obedience…the broad jump. No matter what I did, what props I used, she would cheat and cut the corner. I stopped training it all together and focused on Rally. A few weeks ago, while training for a rally sign, it dawned on me that she knew how to go around something and this is her very first session combining the broad jump and her ”around” cue and this may work beautifully for her! It’s definitely the first time she’s jumped straight without something on the jump itself to make her stay straight! I’m going to work this a while before I fade out the pole to go around.
The start of something sweet with my boy 💚
Me: Buddy it’s cold, let’s go in
Natchez: Kick the ball woman
