Recently at an AKC Dog Breeding Symposium held at Michigan State University with key note speaker Dr. Claudia Orlandi Ph.D. (AKC's breeder of the year and author of The ABC's of Dog Breeding) shocked many breeders when it was disclosed that there have been scientific studies to show that it is detrimental for bi***es to skip heat cycles. It was shared that once you have begun to mate a bitch that you should NOT skip any heat cycles until she is completely finished breeding. A bitch is said to be "finished" breeding when her litter size is drastically decreased. The study involved following females that were bred every heat cycle and females that were bred every other heat cycle. After they were "finished" breeding, the bi***es were spayed and their uterus dissected. Those showing most stress, and damage of the uterus were the females that were bred "every other" heat cycle. Part of the rational that skipping heat cycles is harmful stems from the fact that with consecutive heat cyclesthere is no "flushing action" of the uterus, that normally occurs by having a litter of puppies.The female will go through Estrus no matter if she is bred or not and by breeding a healthy bitch back to back,can lesson the chances of the female experiencing pyometra, infections and false pregnancys. The choice to breed or not, should be contingent upon the goals the breeder has and for sure the mental and physical health of the female, above all else. The important information to take away from this study, is that a breeder with healthy females, does have "choices".++

We're still floating from our Breeder Appreciation Happy Hour this weekend 🫶🏻❤️
Thanks SO MUCH to all the breeders, dog lovers, owners, and handlers that came out to ring in Westminster weekend with us. It was a night of celebration and connection filled with swag, Good Dog cookies, drinks, great raffle prizes, and, of course, dog cuddles.
Special thanks to Purina for helping us put together this memorable evening— it's SO important to create moments that give breeders the recognition they deserve. To the new folks that came out— it was incredible to meet you, and we can't wait to see you again. And to the old friends that came out— we were thrilled to see your familiar faces (as always!).
Congratulations to all the big winners from the night, but more importantly, congratulations to all of YOU for all the hard work you do to bring healthy dogs into this world.
We couldn't be prouder to have you in the Good Dog community.

Some days I just don't understand people. These 2 cute little sweeties have the greatest personality. These are Maltipoms. Rehoming fee. The little male (in the front) is my favorite. He has an ornery streak and lots of sass. The little female is just so sweet and loving. They only weigh 2 lbs at 9 weeks old. And they LOVE to play in these pine shavings!But, no fault of their own, their new homes have decided they can't take them. They are ready to go and prespoiled! If anyone would want to add a new fur baby!

Olly - 12 weeks and still looking for his forever family to ❤️ he is the sweetest and whines until he gets what he feels like is enough kisses! He’s utd on age appropriate vaccinations and dewormed. Vet health check, one year health guarantee and lifetime breeder support. Gordon and Bubbles are his parents, he will weigh 10-12lbs fully grown. He is the only one left. I will be delivering Niles to Cameron MO this weekend and can bring Olly along too if someone is interested 😊

For anyone that was on my puppy waiting list that I have not contacted, I’m sad to say I only had 3 puppies 😥. I plan to breed another female once she cycles. For some unknown reasons 2 females didn’t breed this go round.

A German Shepherd, Labrador and a Shih Tzu all died and are standing in front of God.

God asks all three of them what they believe in.

The German Shepherd replies: "I believe in discipline, training, and loyalty to my owner."

"Good," says God, "take a seat on my left side."

"Labrador, what do you believe in?" Asks God.
The Labrador answers: "I believe in fun, play, and loving my owner."

"Ah," God said, "You can come sit at my right side."

Then he looks at the Shih Tzu: "And how about you?"
The Shih Tzu hops up on the throne, curls up in a little ball and says, "I believe you're in my seat!" ♥️😂

Shih Tzu

They certianly don't behave anything like real dogs; they are more like tiny furry humans. They look like a cross between an Ewok, and a Hobbit; they have large, round eyes with a gentle, loving expression, which conceals the vast intellect within. They are clever, inquisitive, ingenious and capable of thoughtful malice and destruction. They can look and act VERY cute when they want to, and really know how to work a crowd. They may be related in some way to lephrechauns, as they seem to have a number of supernatural powers, including the ability to always be the wrong side of a closed door.

For may years, Shih Tzu were the pampered pets of the Chinese Imperial family. As a result of this, Shih Tzu seem to have a memory of being carried round on silk cusions and fed tiny morsels of food by a small army of flunkeys. Since this is what they are used to, this is what they expect. Any Shih Tzu inserted into a normal" house consisting of adult and immature humans, and other dogs,. will quickly become "boss" of the entire establishment; they have a Size Twelve personality squashed down into a Size Three body.

It is often said by those who do not understand them that Shih Tzu think they are human. This is not correct; Shih Tzu know they are Shih Tzu, but importantly what they also know is that humans are placed on this planet to be at their beck and call every moment of the day and to tend to their every whim immediately and without question. When one of us fails to behave as expected, they adopt a puzzled, sorrowful look, as if pitying the lack of understanding.
If they do not get their own way immediately, the look of pity is replaced by what can only be described as a Hard Stare, swiftly followed by The End Of the World As You Know It, as the docile little furball erupts into rage at your incompetence and will tell you so in no uncertain terms leaving no doubt that they are highly upset with you even if you do not know why.
