Our latest project in support of our mounted men and women is the first annual Mounted Police Olympics scheduled to take place at the incomparable World Equestrian Center - Ocala Jan 9-12. Riders from all over the country will compete over 7 events: Inspection, Dressage, Jumping, Barrels, Equitation, Obstacles and Drill Formations. Some of our team celebrated the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby by attending a Derby party at Grand Oaks - Assisted Living By VNA in Palm City, brining our beautifully trained horses to meet the residents of both their Assisted Living and Memory Care units. It is always amazing to see the wonder and joy these animals bring.

This Search and Rescue Equine Scent Training seminar at Tailwind Trails with Peace River K9 Search and Rescue Association Inc.was covered by WPTV News. These volunteers were training their horses on Area Search And Tracking using scenting to aid in the recovery of lost hikers, Alzheimer’s patients who have wandered off and missing children. This organization serves law enforcement agencies and Florida communities through private donations. Can your horse do this??? Our team did rotorcraft training this weekend, desensitizing these horses to helicopters to allow them to work successfully in the field. Duke is a 4 yr old QH who is member of the PBSO - Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit who is here at Tailwind Trails in training with Evan Ackerly of Ackerly Equestrian Services. The other two horses are Busby and Annie, who are the first two members of the newly formed Peace River K9 Search and Rescue Association Inc. East Coast Equine Equine Scenting Team. Busby is a 3 yr old Friesian ridden by XTA founder April Elizabeth Williams Milner and Annie is a 5 yr old Friesian Sport Horse ridden by her daughter, Tess. Our pilot for the exercise was retired American Airlines 777 Captain Davis in his which will be featured at the upcoming SUN 'n FUN Airshow. Some of the team from XTA was down at Keiser University’s fabulous Keiser Equestrian facility in Locahatchee putting on a groundwork clinic for some of their students. Evan Ackerly spent time educating a stubborn horse named Zippy who was experiencing some trailer loading issues. Thank you Director Doctor Lindsey McNeil for inviting us to share our expertise with your eager students. These young ladies were well prepared, engaged and asked some great questions. The future of our industry is bright at the hands of these ladies. The clinic concluded with Zippy relaxed and walking calming on and off the trailer multiple times.

You'll find me at the South Florida Fair beginning THIS THURSDAY! Evan Ackerly of Ackerly Equestrian Services and I will be spending most of January at the fantastic South Florida Fair with our horses, Vegas and Busby, taking a lucky few riders through our "Ultimate Desentizing Clinic." I've had lots of people reach out and say "I wish I could, but my horse would freak out!" BUT YOU CAN! The whole point of this kind of training is to teach you and your horse to work through extreme stimulus in a relaxed, controlled manner. We use the same techniques we use and teach in our XTA Mounted Patrol Academy to train the mounted law enforcement professionals and their horses. There are a few spots remaining for the lucky and the brave! You can do this! The experience will leave you more confident than you ever imagined and the pictures will be "insta worthy" for sure. We took the show on the road this week riding out with the always terrific Mounted Unit of PBSO - Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in the beautiful neighborhood of Caloosa. Evan Ackerly of Ackerly Equestrian Services put them all through patrol paces and training challenges on a previously troubled horse who has turned into a terrific and brave mount. We are all also enjoying the hint of cooler weather! Stay tuned for more adventures.
