TropiClean Oxy-Med Oatmeal Shampoo | Petco

A lot of clients ask me what I use for itchy dogs with allergies, so I figured I would just make it public knowledge. :) After all, a dog who isn't distracted by not feeling well is easier to train and a pleasure to live with! This is not meant to be medical advice. Please follow the guidance you get from your veterinarian. This just works for me and a lot of the dogs that I work with on a regular basis.

Step 1: Zyrtec. I give a 75 # German Shepherd two Zyrtecs in the morning with breakfast.

Step 2: wash the dog with diluted dawn dish soap to remove any allergens or microorganisms. Use a rubber brush to get deep. There is a lot of concern from some people about using dawn on your pets, but I actually picked up this little secret when I worked for a vet. ;) I have yet to have any bad experiences from it.

Step 3: wash the dog with a medicated oatmeal shampoo and let sit for 5 minutes before rinsing. Use the rubber brush to get down to the skin for best results. Rinse after it sits for 5 minutes. (Tropiclean Oxymed medicated oatmeal shampoo is what I use).

Step 4: Apply Tropiclean Oxymed medicated treatment and use the rubber brush to get it down to the skin. Let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Step 5: Dry the dog. Using a forced air dryer will give you the best results because it blows out all the dead hair and helps aerate the skin.

Voila! Itch free dog! If you have a really itchy monster repeat this process every two weeks or as needed. You can get these products at most Petco, PetSmart, and Pets Supply Plus locations, or on Amazon or Chewy. Happy bathing!

Directions Shake well before using. Wet the coat thoroughly and apply a generous amount over the entire coat. Massage shampoo into a rich lather. Allow to remain on the coat 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse well. May be used daily. Made in USA.

Starting Sunday August 18th (and every Sunday after that), I will be holding a FREE drop in obedience class for anyone who has trained with me before (class or private sessions). These are informal, 1-hour sessions that will start at 10:00; locations may vary week to week but I will always put out an event beforehand on this page. Trailing and cadaver to follow right after.
