This is the side of rescuing that people don’t see, and just don’t realise how hard it is for us behind the scenes.
Strap in guys, while I explain.
This is Marcus.
His owner contacted me to ask me to rehome him, because….
‘He barks at other dogs and people when out so needs rehoming ’
Marcus is a 2 year old patterdale x Labrador.
He had been owned by said owner for… 5 weeks.
He’s just settling in, learning his new environment and family, and at only 2 years old he will be rather overwhelmed as well as adjusting to everything new.
Barking is how dogs communicate, and express their fears, and also excitement.
When I asked his owner what training she had been doing with Marcus to help him overcome his possible nervous behaviour, the answer was ‘he’s had none’
I explained I am full at the moment but I will let her know when I had room to fit him in.
2.5 hours later I receive a call from a vet practice.
Marcus had been taken to the vets to be EUTHANISED.
Put to sleep.
To end his life, because his owner could not be bothered to put any time or training into him.
THANKFULLY, the vets refused and called us.
They spoke to their behaviourist while they were there, and offered the owner sessions to help Marcus- the owner declined.
Killing him was the easy way to end her problem.
So, of course, with fear the owner would then just go to another vet and put him to sleep- I made room.
I don’t have room, but I’m not having it.
Marcus has been with us less than half an hour.
He has sat, taken a treat very gently.
Has met 6 dogs- enjoyed a sniff and his tail hasn’t stopped wagging
He hasn’t barked yet.
Too many people are getting pets without any consideration to the time they need to adjust, and expecting them to be ‘perfect companions’ without actually putting anything into them.
Take some responsibility and invest the time into them, you chose them to be part of your family. Stop destroying them just because you cannot be bothered to help them.
It’s not their fault.
You are safe Marcus, and loved.
You will never be treated so badly again, and that I can promise.

Something amazing happened today!
I manage to walk Mr H (black lab in the pic) next to another dog (my angel Artie) without him getting over aroused or being rude to the other dog.
I honestly almost cried. I have been working with this handsome boy for a long time and it’s just amazing to see hard work paying off 😭😭😭

It’s been a few very busy weeks, so I haven’t posted a lot of fun videos.
All is well, just fell asleep watching a movie whilst cuddling with Zelda and my partner took a pic of us.
He was obviously sitting on the floor as his spot was taken 😂

I probably sound like a broken record but any of you that have had their puppies trained by me will have heard me saying “socialising a puppy is exposing him/her to different environments, people, dogs without the need for constant interaction whilst keeping neutral or positive associations”
I brought my bestie Artie and we had the loveliest walk with Lucy, the Australian labradoodle pup.
At first,Artie was off lead and Lucy was on lead, as I expected her to become a bit excited. We went to a safe big area filled with sniffs and exciting things to explore.
The goal was to make humans a lot more exciting then distractions.
She said a few quick hellos to other dogs, came straight back for treats when called and even got an off lead run around with Artie.
That was a perfect socialisation session ❤️

TV bullsh*t !!
Yup I'm going to do the unthinkable, I'm going to raise my head above the parapet and name some names.
Graeme Hall aka the Dog Father ( aka the t**t in a cravat), Ceaser Milan, the little bully who believes poking a highly stressed dog in the neck works to calm them down ( spoiler alert he got bit badly and the dog was pushed into now being a bite risk)
Both have airtime and both are a waste of oxygen when it comes to TRUELY supporting dogs welfare.
I watched one these ' behavioursist" call a dog stubborn for not walking across a slippery floor when the rest of the world SCREAMED they could see they dog was in pain, yet this got air time, it influenced being tough, it didn't influence compassion at all!!
I've been contacted previously about tv shows but I point blank refused.
Why?
Because the amount of time, effort,stress, hard work, graft, sleepless nights, that goes into helping a client CANNOT be respected, understood,and appreciated in a hours worth of tv.
That hour often gives people dangerous little bits of information that is irresponsible, unethical, and often uneducated.
I HATE the idea people may watch a program and suddenly think that hour can give them the tools they need to help their dogs.
What hope have our dogs got when we can potentially be so misguided about the TRUE dedication it takes to be a respected professional within their field.
Tv doesn't make a professional, it just makes a good pay packet.

*Win of the week* This super star of a boy can struggle to keep his attention on me if we are passing by other dogs. He tends to bow and then jump towards another dog as saying “let’s play!”. We have been working on ignoring distractions for a long while and this week we passed by another doodle mix (one of his favourite dog types) at a very close distance. Mr G kept his attention on me (and my treats), had a bit of eye contact with the other dog and that was it! I was over the moon! *Win of the week* Thought I would start sharing a success story every week so you guys can get a sneak peek of what I do! Meet Mr H, when we first met he dragged me down the street and I have to confess I got a very sore arm. After one session with him I could tell he was a wonderful clever dog, he just didn’t feel comfortable having a collar around his neck. I tried my favourite @victoriastilwell harness on him, did a few exercises of side by side walking and in a blink of an eye,he was walking on lead without dragging anyone with him. Have been working with him on normalising seeing other dogs and spending time with them without always being full on. He has come a long way! Is your teenager pup driving you a little bit crazy? Have you tried all of these fun activities & games? (All of these activities have been tested on my very own crazy doggies and have their paw of approval 🤣) - Kong squeaky balls A good game of fetch has always tired out both my pups. Not all dogs will love a normal tennis ball, but these squeaky kong ones can be so exciting and enticing! Before becoming a trainer I remember I had to work hard to entice my dogs to fetch and this video really helped me: https://youtu.be/0pqCWTgcA10 - Yakers Dog Chew A milk based hard chew with a smoky scent. My dogs absolutely love chewing on their Yaker chew, ideal if you just need to watch your favourite show on the telly or need a break. Once your dog has munched through the Yaker chew and you only have a small piece left you can pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes and it becomes a crunchy snack. - Beef tendons Firm but chewy, these will entertain your pup for a while. - Natures menu treats Super smelly with a very high content of meat these are the ideal treats to teach a game of find to your dog. The goal is that you are able to scatter tiny pieces around your entire house and ask your dog to FIND them. This will give your pup an exciting job to do, he will use his nose and brain to solve a puzzle and will be so proud of his elf once he has found every single little treat you have hidden - Kong, licky mat and snuffle mat Depending on what your dog is into, these are again great options to entertain and enrich his life. You can fill your kong and licky mat with dog safe peanut butter or doggie patê and freeze them so it takes your dog longer to go through these enriching activities. You can also feed your dog’sdinner (a couple of times a week) on the snuffle mat, this way it will take him longer to eat his dinner and it will add a level of excitement to it. - Cardboard boxes If I have had a busy day and I didn’t take my dogs on a very exciting w

I usually try to mix in a session with one of my own dogs in the puppy package I offer. I will usually use Artie the cockapoo as my assistant. But I had a feeling Zelda would be the right fit for Nala. They are both Romanian rescues.
