Hey friends!

Feels good to break the silence on our page - We apologize for our hiatus, it was a necessary part of accomplishing our mission.

For several months now the Peculiar Fam has been fostering small animals for those in need. We all know times are hard right now and costs are only increasing - It’s not uncommon to face hardship these days. Our goal is to reunite pets with their owners if possible.

We are, however, at capacity and we are unable to fund the organization based on revenue from our rattery alone. We are working through the process of obtaining our 501(c)(3), but this can take awhile…

If you follow us and you love helping small animals or other people, please consider making a donation or purchasing our merchandise.

New rats will still be available for adoption as we have worked to preserve our favorite lines.

We are proud to take on this new mission, but we need your help so we can expand and continue providing excellent care to these animals.

We will have some very special babies available soon!

We’ve been working on a super docile line with the intention of producing rats for Emotional Support.

I must say, I’m proud of our progress. Our most recent litter is so extremely sweet.

If you’re interested in reserving one of these babies, please reach out to us! These rats are best suited for someone who wants to spend a lot of physical time with their rats, rather than interacting through the cage. They are very used to humans!

We 💗 when our adopters send us pictures of their rats enjoying their new home. This is Rue, who was adopted as a friend for the adopter’s other rat. The adopter was thrilled to report that Rue loves her new home and her new cage mate.

Our rattery isn’t “perfect”, but it’s come a long way thanks to our diligent efforts and the support/care from our friends. We can proudly say that we provide every rat with comfort, treats, and nutrition. While some rats are socialized with a little more than others (usually of the rat’s own choosing) every one gets love and attention. While we understand the need for feeders, our goal of keeping our rats from becoming feeders has been wildly successful. We have also not had to cull anyone as we’ve left that to the mothers’ discretion. We are always prepared to handle any situation, however. Those who follow my personal page know that I am disabled, which has led me into some apprehension towards the eugenic side of breeding. Thus far, we’ve been able to end bad lines and keep our rats with genetic anomalies happy and healthy. We’ve “bottle-fed” antibiotics and we’ve cleaned sores caused by failed culling attempts by the mother. All have recovered beautifully. Their quality of life is excellent. For those who’ve followed this page and continue to do so, thank you! We are so happy to connect and share with other rat lovers. We hope you will love all the content to come! Edit: For clarification purposes, our disabled rats are not available for adoption as we know their genetics could be unpredictable/unreliable. Please enjoy this video of our sweet Patchy boy, who survived his mother’s cull attempt. ❤️

Coat color update! We will mostly have grey and black berkshires like the two in the video below. They are so very sweet and cute 🥰

Every single one of our rats are loved and cared for. In this clip, we are feeding antibiotics to this little one to help clear up an infection on his leg. The good news is that he will be loved, the bad news is he won’t be available for adoption because of his injury. Don’t worry, we will still have plenty of HEALTHY babies available! 🥰🐀

Interesting tidbit: When baby rats are born, they are still developing and need the mother rat to stimulate their bowel/bladder function. Mother rat usually grooms each pup multiple times a day, during which she helps her babies potty! 🥺
