Who We Are and What We Do
Sierra Pacific Furbabies NorCal·Thursday, August 8, 2019·
We are a branch of Sierra Pacific Furbabies, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit pet rescue. Our location serves California’s northern coastal counties and those counties adjacent. Our cats are cared for in private volunteer foster homes, featured online and at Petco, Eureka, and are available to meet by appointment only. M

ost of our rescue cats come from shelters, have been abandoned or reported as strays. We only rarely accept owner surrenders, primarily in the cases of owner death, incarceration, or nursing home placement. All of our cats are tested for feline leukemia, FIV, and heartworm, are spayed or neutered, provided their basic shots, microchipped, deflead and dewormed prior to adoption. All are litter box trained with the exception of barn cats. Kittens are socialized prior to adoption. Barn cat temperament may range from friendly to feral. We require our cats to be adopted into indoor-only homes for their own safety, with the exception of barn cats and working cats, and the occasional adult cat rescued from a 100% outdoor setting. Potential adopters must complete an application, have landlord approval if renting, allow a safety homecheck, and pay an adoption fee. We do offer a small discount to seniors, military/veterans, and with proof of disability. With rare exception we require our adopters to be 21 or over. We specialize in matching cats to adopters. Cats have unique purr-sonalities too and not every cat is ideal for all potential adopters.

Our shy guy, Tortellini has been adopted and gone home in Eureka. His new pet parents are the perfect fit for this little cutie with big purrs. He moved around a lot through no fault of his own so we want to thank all involved in getting him to where he is today - Mary Ellen, Alyssa, Brent, and Anne.

Today, one of our rescue cats, Marco, gently passed at age 19. He was rescued from death row at Devore Shelter in 2015 under the name Wesley. His first foster was Deborah B. She took him for his vetting and when he explored the entire vet office, we changed his name to Marco, for Marco Polo the explorer. He had a sweet and gentle nature, preferring to get loves over just about anything else. He had a chronic digestive problem for many years and tried many specialty diets before hitting on freeze dried raw food. He improved amazingly. His second foster was Angela V. As a black senior cat with special needs he was never adopted. Instead he came to live with Shannon and Wayne for the rest of his life. The past few weeks he suddenly declined, then rallied, and then passed in his sleep. He was a beautiful, loving, black cat who deserved a better life than he was given but we hope his last years with us were happier.

Thebe is the most playful sister of the trio and is very curious. She loves people and other cats. Not quite as fluffy as her queenly sister, but sports a fluffy tail and cute little ear tufts.

Cyllene is a fluffy black kitten about 5-6 months old. She is a people cat, being not terribly fond of other cats unless they treat her as the queen. She is talkative, demands attention, and is very sweet.

Sweet Luna, dumped at a vet hospital with her kittens, fostered by Sarah early on and Hellen, later, has gone home in Arcata. She joins a male kitty around the same age. Thank you to the team of vet hospital and fosters. As one can see by both their smiles, it looks like she has landed in her purr-fect home.

A strong Atmospheric River will bring a prolonged period of moderate-to-heavy rainfall beginning on Tuesday afternoon and continuing into the weekend. The heaviest rainfall is expected on Wednesday with 2 to 4 inches of rain. Persistent rain is expected Thursday through Saturday with 1 to 3 inches of rainfall most likely each day. Excessive heavy rainfall will increase the flooding potential of small streams, low-lying and poor drainage areas. Be prepared and stay tuned to weather.gov/eka/ to the latest weather forecasts.
