Cuidados básicos para tus patos 🦆

I will tell you some tips for taking care of ducks, in case you have a duck or want to adopt one.

Firstly, if you want to raise ducklings, you need to have a place where they will live. This place should be suitable for them and where they can stay warm. It can be a cardboard box or some plastic storage box, which should be well insulated as the ducklings need to be in a warm place.

The base should be made of sawdust or it could also be made of straw. You could even use old towels to prevent the floor from being slippery because their little feet are very delicate in the first few weeks after being born, and if they slip, they could hurt themselves or even die.

For greater warmth, if your ducks are babies, you can use a heat lamp to provide them with warmth.

Ducks require a pond or a small swimming pool where they can swim and bathe. If the ducks are small, a small tray with little water will suffice, and they should always be under your supervision.

Regarding feeding, during the first few weeks, we should give our ducks starter feed. Remember that there are prohibited foods that they cannot consume, such as avocado, croquettes, onion, garlic, among others. When they are adults, they can eat adult duck feed and supplement with fruits and vegetables.

Ducks should swim daily, when they are small under your supervision and when they are adults, let them swim on their own. You can make a pool for them, a pond, or a tray of sufficient size may suffice.

For baby ducks, you can use a paint roller tray as a ramp to help them enter and exit easily.

Feed them with duck egg yolk, which will give them strength and vigor from an early age. This can be given to weak ducks who did not get the necessary nutrients from the egg, and by giving them duck egg yolk, it will help provide protein and give them strength.

Always protect them from predators, such as dogs, cats, and other animals that could end the life of your duck, especially dogs, foxes, and hawks. Keep them in a safe area surrounded by a fence and keep predators away.

Always keep your ducklings well-fed so that when they grow up, they are healthy and strong. You can feed them with duck feed, corn, wheat, and even some insects that serve as protein, fruits, and vegetables.
