Meet Mike, an LBACS volunteer who has been coming in to host dog training classes on behalf of zoomroomlb, for the past four weeks. Over the course of the training, four volunteers picked one dog they would like to work with. Fortunately, two dogs got adopted, leaving only two, Dimarco (A719939) and Cesar (A706758), to attend the final class.
This pilot program began in hopes of making some of our long-stay dogs more adoption-ready, so that they’re the best dogs they can be when they head into their forever homes! 🏡
During the holiday season, we see a rise in intakes, leading to limited space at our shelter. We are currently AT CAPACITY and we need the community’s help! If you have it in your heart to help this season, here are the ways you can make a difference:
🐶 ADOPT: By adopting a dog, you give your new friend a loving home, while also creating a space for us to help incoming dogs in need. Adoptions are only $25 from now through Dec 29th. Browse our adoptable dogs here: longbeach.gov/ACS
🐾 FOSTER: Not traveling for the holidays? Share your home with an animal in need! No prior experience needed, we’re here to answer any questions you may have! Apply here: tinyurl.com/LBACSvolunteer
👯 PARTNER WITH A LOCAL RESCUE: You can also choose to foster through a local rescue, which pulls animals directly from us!

Meet Moose (A723595), our lovable goofball! This gentle giant is a big bundle of affection who adores everyone he meets. Watch out for his huge, sloppy kisses—they're his signature move! Moose is playful and curious around other dogs, always ready for a game. He’s never far from his favorite ball and squeaky toy, which he loves to show off. We’re hoping he finds a loving forever home soon. Could that be with you? 🩵
Moose is currently in foster care - to schedule a meet and greet, please email [email protected] 🐾
Murdoch (A729136) is a television star! He was featured on KTLA’s Off the Clock yesterday and we hope he’s sparked interest for potential adopters or fosters! If your interested in fostering reach out to [email protected] or if you’d like to adopt reach out to [email protected] 🐾

🚨URGENT🚨: We are over-capacity and are at NEGATIVE THREE kennel spaces. We want to be able to help the community but we’re going to need your help in return. If you can’t adopt or foster, help us spread the word about temporary intake diversion. Here are some steps that YOU can do to assist us with temporary intake diversion while space is created through adoptions and fostering.
1) If you find a stray dog within our service cities, please report it to [email protected] or call (562) 570-7387. This allows us to post the dog on our website for owners to search.
2) Did you know that most stray dogs have owners within a 5 mile radius? We are kindly asking finders to hang onto stray dogs, and try to find the owner within the community.
3) Once you report a stray dog to us, we can provide you with food, leashes, collars, toys, and crates to help you keep the dog in your home, temporarily!
4) While you wait for us to have space, we encourage you to scour your neighborhood, post on social media, and alert your neighbors on Nextdoor. YOU can help them find their home and help them skip the stresses of the shelter.
5) Please do not bring out of area dogs to LBACS. Take stray dogs to the shelter that services the area you found the dog - this is the best way for owners to be reunited with their pets.
We cannot thank you enough! Every time we ask for help, the Long Beach community delivers! Thank you for helping us with intake diversion, fostering. and adoption. Compassion Saves lives - together! 🐾
