Did you know that when you get a puppy from me, your puppy comes with one month of free pet insurance through Trupanion? Not only does Trupanion have a superior product, with excellent coverage, and a quick and easy claims process, but the customer service at Trupanion far exceeds that I've experienced with any other company in any industry. The Trupanion staff go out of their way to be caring and empathetic during hard times.

The First 30 Days With Your New Puppy

Some good info.

A new puppy is often full of fun but it will need some direction from you. Make sure your new puppy is safe, healthy, and gets off to the right start.

Let's talk grooming! Grooming is an important part of your Yorkies life, and you want to make sure you have the proper tools! Yorkies should be professionally groomed about every 6 weeks, but between pro grooms, you want to make sure your new baby's coat is taken care of properly at home!
To groom your baby at home, you will need a steel comb, a slicker brush, a good shampoo, a conditioning spray, and some nail clippers. Your new puppy will need to be brushed and combed daily to help prevent mats, and to help them get used to the grooming process. You will also need to play with their feet often, to get them used to their foot being held for nail trimmings. I recommend a bath once a month, unless they get dirty, playing in something stinky!
You will start your grooming sessions by spritzing your puppy with the conditioning spray. The spray will help your brushing by fighting frizz, breakage, and split ends. It can also make it easier to slide your brush and comb through their hair, and work out any mats you may find.

The next step is to comb your puppy all over, with a steel comb. You want to make sure you get down to the skin, to help prevent any matting. And if you happen to find a small mat, you may be able to work it out with your comb. Be sure to comb the hair carefully, in sections.

After combing your puppy, you will need to brush your puppy with a slicker blush. Brushing regularly will help your dogs coat texture, shine, and help promote growth, as well as help prevent mats.

After you have brushed and combed your puppy, you should follow up by trimming their nails just a tiny bit at a time, and giving them an extra spritz of the conditioning spray.

Follow these guidelines and you will get your puppy off to a good start with grooming!
