Scout and Corie demonstrating an excellent example of the “1-2-3 step game”!
This dog is reactive and this fun challenge is a huge game changer for Scout on his walks! Instead of constantly keeping an eye out for triggers, he has much better engagement with his handler and chooses to come back for a reward rather than to react (excessive vocalizations and jumping/lunging forwards) towards the the other dog involved. Way to go, Scout and Corie!

You may be wondering, “why in the world is the dog being taught this weird thing?”
Neve is showing off her nose-to-palm touch cue. Neve is a husky, which is already an independent breed, so teaching her to be more engaging to her owners can help them bond better and help her ignore outside distractions. This cue is great for any dog or breed to learn, but can be even more helpful for dogs that may struggle with overarousal/overexcitement, reactivity, aggression, and other behaviors!

Neve (Nev-Ay) is a young Husky/Husky mix rescue who is learning to be a well rounded canine citizen! She likes to pull on her leash, as well as lunge and jump towards other animals and people while on walks. We are still working with her on the reactions towards stimuli, but her pulling has already gotten better!
