✨Discover your dogs high value foods✨
Dogs are not stubborn! They solely need higher motivators 🥰
I often hear people saying that they don’t want to use food in training, dogs are just like humans and very unlikely to work for free unless negatively forced which will inevitably lead to unwanted/dangerous behaviours down the line. Food motivates dogs to engage and aids to reinforce the behaviours that we want to see more of, once dogs understand the behaviours that we are looking for we can gradually reduce the amount of food that is needed (we won’t always have treats with us so this is an important part of shaping behaviours)

For his activity I’ve used dried spratt, necks, veg and tripe sticks here to offer choice - a great way to discover your Furbaby’s high value treats that can then be used in training, but it can be just has handy for enticing dogs to eat their meals when they seem a little pickier, a great addition to add mental stimulation to furbabys day or as an activity with high value foods to enjoy when we have visitors over or to add positive associations when there have been changes in their environment 🐶

UPDATE: WINTER is in foster with Olivia & Eoin. Thank you both so much ❤️

😭😭THIS IS EXTREMELY URGENT 😭 😭💔
💔💔Winter is no longer wanted by her family….
Sadly she knows this, you can feel the anxiety & stress flowing from her. 💔💔

Winter needs a loving foster or forever home. She’s a sweet & gentle little soul who loves walks & adventures. At present she’s spending her days out in the garden craving human attention & is stressed to breaking point.

If you’ve ever witnessed a dog suffering from high levels of anxiety, a dog who wants nothing more than to be loved you’ll know how utterly heartbreaking it is. We are now genuinely concerned for little Winter, she needs urgent help.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone offer her a safe space with plenty of human attention. As she’s so upset atm we feel a home without any existing pets would suit her best & if there are children in the home it would be best if they were over 10 yrs of age.

PLEASE SHARE it could mean finding Winter a home where she’s loved & cherished. If you can offer her a foster or forever home please complete the relevant form below. Thank you 🙏

Taking time to create a safe space this week and continuing to add positive associations throughout the will aid as a great comfort in and around halloween and ideal as having somewhere to transfer from home to home if visiting family throughout firework season and even Christmas 🎄

Whether you have large or small decorations, changes in the home can be very unsettling for dogs, if you don’t have decorations but pass a house that does and your dog goes to sniff, let them sniff for a few seconds and then call their attention back to you (great challenge on the way to teach this and aid loose lead 🧡) the second they look back give them a treat just for looking and head on your way. Aim to keep all interactions positive, and note that even if your dog doesn’t seem to react to new decor when they first see it, watch for their behaviour within the five minutes after, do they bark or scratch or do anything out of character? This can be a sign of displacement and means that they may need a day or two of adding positive associations to the changes(decor) practiced in short bursts throughout the day, (this can be similar at Christmas)
Remember to include plenty of high value food along with introductions (if able to then simply scatter on and around the item) *if your dog is reluctant to take the food, engage with the decor or at any stage seems fearful then rethink having seasonal decor for this year 👻 🦇

If a dog doesn’t like being dressed up their stress hormone (cortisol) rises during the initial process. They are then still in the clothes. Externally they can seem calm (shutdown) whereas internally they feel they have no escape meaning that stress hormones spike, this can induce validated fear as their body feels under threat, once the clothes are off they will do a shake-off similar to getting out of the bath, if the internal stress has been significant for the dog they can stay deregulated for days meaning that you may not see behaviour changes until later in the week (barking, jumping, chewing, guarding, chewing paws, licking, sensitivity on lead, etc...) the clothing could have been on all day or for a few moments, each dog is different and experiences the world differently and some may even enjoy the process of the one on one dress up time. We will do intro videos this week as part of our challenges to help you prepare your Furbaby’s in the best way and learn how to make this Halloween season the calmest one yet 👻🐾
