(Sound on!) Rio is dreaming of horse treats, dancing in his head, while Charlie makes the more overt signs he’s ready and waiting for February 14 when he gets his treats. Violet’s tail has grown a lot this past year. Here’s her tail a year ago compared to how it looks day. Impressive for a horse who has a docked tail.

Happy Birthday to the Sanctuary!

Four years ago today, I finally decided to act on the idea to start a 501(c)3 non-profit animal sanctuary to provide reciprocal healing between humans and animals. I’d like to thank my board members, volunteers, vets/providers, vendors, and all of you, my friends, for following and/or joining me on this journey, because I absolutely would be nowhere without you.

We have wonderful things planned for 2025! More rehab, more interns, more rescues, and more workshops. It is still our goal to offer caisson funeral service for the military, police and firefighters in our area, modeled after the Honor Guard at Arlington. Stay tuned or contact us for more information to see how you can help us with this project!!!

Those who have visited seem to leave feeling better than when they arrived. I have no doubt it is due to the magnificence of these amazing creatures, providing each of us some healing energy as a thank you for helping them when they really needed it. Their resilience is a testament to the strength of their soul, the coherence of their heart, and their innate ability to extend forgiveness as they learn to trust again.

I am truly grateful for every person who has donated in the past- Every single dollar matters- It all goes directly to animal care! My Happy Place Animal Sanctuary is a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization. We don't need to be the biggest sanctuary, or the loudest. We are a "boots on the ground, do everything we can, and then do more" kind of place. I really do believe “we are all just here to help walk each other home, leaving only love and kindness in our tread.” This is our sanctuary motto. Do you believe it too? Join us. Follow us. We are thrilled to report Violet has been completely canker-free in all four of her hooves for a few weeks now! It took us a full six months of evaluations and treatments to get her to this point. It takes 3-6 people to work on her in the stock every couple days. The challenge is demanding and rigorous and ongoing. She also requires several different medications. We welcome lots and lots of prayers for her!

We are grateful for all the help we have received so far. She is not done healing yet…but we can all see from her trot she is feeling sooo much better. Her next steps are being evaluated in the next couple weeks. Here are Mason and Violet as we prep for the storm!

The Shire Siblings arrived from quarantine exactly one year ago today. Mason and Violet have had a roller coaster of a year in rehab. We are looking forward getting them to their next level of wellness in 2025. Thanks to everyone who has been supporting them along the way!

Pharaoh is a fancy Dutch Harness Horse (DHH) gelding estimated at 19 years old age. He entered the Sanctuary about 2 years ago. There are estimated to be only 2000 DHH broodmares and 40 sires left in the world. Even at a slow trot he levitates. He has an enigmatic presence and is the alpha of our herd. We love you Pharoah!

Malaki’s Lucky Shamrock, a National Show Horse, has been enjoying sanctuary life for 3 years. After spending at least half his life in the slaughter pipeline, he has learned how to live with a herd and found his place in many a heart along the way. We are proud to be his forever home.
