Flow Hive
My son, Jake Cantrell harvested honey from his flow hive. This is the first time with a flow hive for both of us. I will certainly be using mine next year.
Yea! The first broody chicken this year. This is the first time in several years that I have let them hatch eggs. Usually when one goes broody several decide they will do that too.
So I will follow up with a video when they start hatching in 19 to 21 days. So now I’m on maternity watch!!
I wanted to share a video on my latest venture. I will be dehydrating some garden produce and other things. This was fun and I am looking forward to making jerky also.
Today was another adventure with bees that I have not been able to do yet. After one year of bee keeping I harvested my first honey. 17bls of honey with just 4 frames! It was quite a neat experience. Here is a video of me decapping the honey then a video of spinning it.
How is everyone’s straw-bale garden doing? The bales are decomposing and that is what we want. Here is a little tip.
I finally got my garden set up.
If you are interested in a Straw Bale garden you do not need containers. You can set them on grass or even concrete. I have done both. They are so easy and no weeding or bending way down. That’s the beauty of them. I got my bales today at Ada Feed on Main Street.
Trudy Mills came by and did a mite treatment on the bees. This is the time of year to do that. With the nice weather we have been having, they are bringing in a lot of pollen. I am going to have to get a good picture of that soon.
Hello everyone and Happy New Year. I am looking forward to the prospect of getting honey this year. I just checked the bees so I will show you what I found.
I hope we have a better garden season this year. I’m starting to get excited about that too. Just a few more months!! I sure hope we will not have the scorching sun and no rain. Last years garden was the worst for me. And I had to document it because I said this page would show the truth.
Oh well I am an optimist. So I’m hoping for a great gardening and fruit tree year!!!!
Trudy Mills and Ashley Hampton. I called her Ashley Douglas. Sorry Adam.
I had my grandson Sam helping me check the bees today. They were totally empty of food. So we fed them so they can keep making stores for winter. Sam did a great job and he was a big help to me.
This is the first inspection since adding my second brood box to the hive. Both hives that I have are doing well. I still have a lot to learn, but it sure is exciting.
This is my other hive. It had a queen and was exploding in growth. I added another brood box today. It is so amazing to watch these bees work.
Thank you Trudy Mills for your help.
