“Thank You” to everyone who helped make Dogs Days of Summer 2023 a success.

Mayor Jim Conley remarked “Safe Pet Project has done a fine job of bringing our community volunteers, businesses and residents together to support and improve the lives of our area pets. We are proud to have the Dog Days of Summer as one of our annual Blairsvile community events.” Thank you Mayor Conley for attending. We also thank the City Hall staff and the Blairsville Police Department for all their support.

A big thank you for the months of work by the Dog Days of Summer planning committee: Sharon Keen from Keen Creations and Co., Walter Hoth from Safe Pet Project, Sarah Gazzara and Tom Shidaker from Safe Pet Project.

The vaccination clinic and microchipping were a remarkable success for the animals! Over 100 dogs and cats were microchipped and almost 300 vaccines were given. This would not have been possible without Drs Stevenson and Arnall and their team from Nottely Oaks Animal Hospital. Safe Pet Project was joined by United Community and our friends at Seasons Inn Motel & Plaza in making it possible to offer several of the vaccines for free!

Safe Pet Project volunteers did an extraordinary job of coordinating things at the event. Bailey’s Barkery and their team offered great support and provided a wonderful location for our clinic. Thank you to Sarah Olver from Cabin Coffee Co. - Blairsville, GA, Crystal Fairless from the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce and Megan Kimsey from Grandaddy Mimm's Distilling Co. for all their help. Of course the vendors which were set up at the green space/park and Visit Downtown Blairsville are always there to support our community and our animals.

Blairsville is a town built on community. Safe Pet Project feels so blessed to be a part of this special place! Thank you again Blairsville!

They are available for sale in our thrift store and they will be available as well tomorrow at the Dog Days of Summer - Blairsville, GA event. All the proceeds help us to offer free vaccines to the pets in our community, thanks to our friends from Seasons Inn Motel & Plaza.

Thanks ThreadzInk Printing for their great job printing the shirts for us.

The pet parade starts at 10am. Looking out for our pets we walked the parade route at 10:15. The air temperature was 76 degrees. Walking barefoot on the blacktop was no problem. There will be bowls of ice water throughout the route. If anyone is concerned for their pet please don’t join the parade.

There will be a lot of fun happening at Safe Pet Project’s Dog Days of Summer event in Downtown Blairsville, August 26th from 10am to 2pm.

The event begins at 10am with our second annual pet parade around the Historic Courthouse.

Don’t miss the free microchipping and free/low cost vaccination clinic administrated by Nottely Oaks Animal Hospital which will be held at Bailey’s Barkery; a new pet boutique opening in late September early October.

The green space/park behind Blairsville City Hall will be the location for the pet parade judging and awarding of prizes. There will be pets available for adoption, a raffle of beautiful baskets, amazing silent auction items and a photo op with you and your pet taken by a professional photographer. In addition there will be an array of "Pet Pawticipants” offering art, daycare, boarding and grooming services, dog training, animal toys, cookies and pet supplies.

Safe Pet Project’s “Dog Days of Summer” Celebration!

It’s August which means the Dog Days of Summer are in Blairsville. It’s not just about the hot wet weather. It’s also about celebrating our mountain animals and their importance in our lives, the unconditional love they bring to our families and their health and safety.

August 26th is the day all the “Dog Days Of Summer” festivities are taking place in Downtown Blairsville. Beginning at 10 am there will be a pet parade around our historic courthouse. The parade begins at City Hall and travels around our Downtown merchant’s stores, many of which will be offering store specials, discounts and pet treats. The parade will end in our new green space behind City Hall where there will be a contest of the largest dog, smallest dog and best costume. Local pet related businesses will be set up in the park such as a dog trainer, animal artist, pet supplies and a raffle for great gift baskets. There will even be an opportunity for you and your pet to have your picture taken by a professional photographer. Looking for a pet? Mountain Shelter Humane Society and Safe Pet Project animals in need of a loving home will be there to steal you heart.

A free microchipping and free/low cost vaccination clinic will be held at Bailey’s Barkery (formerly Rebecca’s Off the Square) - 49D Blue Ridge St., Blairsville - right across Blairsville City Hall. United Community has made it possible to offer free dog and cat rabies vaccinations. The folks at Seasons Inn Motel & Plaza created the now known nationwide “Miller For Mayor” t-shirts. The sale of these shirts has made it possible to offer the community free Parvo/Distemper vaccinations. Additional vaccinations will also be available at a low cost. Nottely Oaks Animal Hospital is donating the time of their staff at the clinic. Safe Pet Project will be offering free microchipping for dogs and cats. These services are provided for our Tri-County area of Union County, GA, Towns County, GA and Cherokee County, NC. ALL dogs must be on a leash (no retractable leashes please) and cats must be in a carrier. If possible prior to the event. please print and complete the microchipping/vaccination forms that are available on our website https://www.safepetproject.org/events

This Dog Days Of Summer event helps raise funds for Safe Pet Project’s rescue of lost and abandoned animals. The event is on Saturday, August 26 from 10 am to 2 pm. For more information or to make a donation to help our local dogs and cats call Safe Pet Project at 706-400-7076, Ext. 1 or visit their web site https://www.safepetproject.org

The Dog Days of Summer August 26th event keeps getting better and better! Sponsorship from United Community will allow the rabies vaccines at the Dog Days of Summer clinic to be free to the community!

Now, we are excited to announce that the sale of "Miller For Mayor" t-shirts have been so successful that the proceeds allow the Distemper/Parvo vaccines at the clinic to be free to the community also! Nottely Oaks Animal Hospital is generously donating the support of their amazing staff for the clinic.

Folks please give a shout out to our friends at Seasons Inn Motel & Plaza and our friends at ThreadzInk Printing for all they have done to make the "Miller For Mayor" shirts possible!
