Safe Pet Project’s “Dog Days of Summer” Celebration!
It’s August which means the Dog Days of Summer are in Blairsville. It’s not just about the hot wet weather. It’s also about celebrating our mountain animals and their importance in our lives, the unconditional love they bring to our families and their health and safety.
August 26th is the day all the “Dog Days Of Summer” festivities are taking place in Downtown Blairsville. Beginning at 10 am there will be a pet parade around our historic courthouse. The parade begins at City Hall and travels around our Downtown merchant’s stores, many of which will be offering store specials, discounts and pet treats. The parade will end in our new green space behind City Hall where there will be a contest of the largest dog, smallest dog and best costume. Local pet related businesses will be set up in the park such as a dog trainer, animal artist, pet supplies and a raffle for great gift baskets. There will even be an opportunity for you and your pet to have your picture taken by a professional photographer. Looking for a pet? Mountain Shelter Humane Society and Safe Pet Project animals in need of a loving home will be there to steal you heart.
A free microchipping and free/low cost vaccination clinic will be held at Bailey’s Barkery (formerly Rebecca’s Off the Square) - 49D Blue Ridge St., Blairsville - right across Blairsville City Hall. United Community has made it possible to offer free dog and cat rabies vaccinations. The folks at Seasons Inn Motel & Plaza created the now known nationwide “Miller For Mayor” t-shirts. The sale of these shirts has made it possible to offer the community free Parvo/Distemper vaccinations. Additional vaccinations will also be available at a low cost. Nottely Oaks Animal Hospital is donating the time of their staff at the clinic. Safe Pet Project will be offering free microchipping for dogs and cats. These services are provided for our Tri-County area of Union County, GA, Towns County, GA and Cherokee County, NC. ALL dogs must be on a leash (no retractable leashes please) and cats must be in a carrier. If possible prior to the event. please print and complete the microchipping/vaccination forms that are available on our website https://www.safepetproject.org/events
