Have you heard of the 10 essentials? If you’re a hiker, I hope you have! But what should you bring for your dog? I made a list below of the things I always make sure to bring out on hikes for my pups 🐾
↠ Food: I always have lots of treats in my f***y pack for them for training and energy boosts. High protein foods, such as or are always a great choice.
↠ Water: You always always always want to make sure you have enough water for your dogs (and yourself!). Also, make sure to bring a bowl or make sure they can drink out of a hose/bottle.
↠ Booties: I recommend dogbooties.com since they are lightweight and you buy them individually. I always make sure to bring them with me. It could get too hot in the desert, too cold in the snow, or there could be pokey plants and sharp rocks. If the dogs can’t protect their feet, you will have to carry them out (see #6).
↠ First Aid Kit: They do make first aid kits specifically for dogs which I highly recommend, but you can also use many of the items in a human kit.
↠ Insulation: A a waterproof/windproof jacket just in case the weather turns. I recommend
↠ Emergency Harness: A dog carrying harness made specifically for emergencies. Since I’m from NH, I recommend Pack-A-Paw, though I know many people like the Airlift harness by
↠ Leash: Always carry a leash, even if your dog will be hiking off leash, and follow leash laws.
↠ P**p bags: All the p**p bags.
↠ Name Tag: A tag with your dog’s emergency contact info is always a great idea!
Bonus Gear: I use a harness that has a handle for easy lifting and lowering, as well as a back clip for their leashes. makes fantastic gear and I use their sidekick F***y pack on every adventure. makes the best adventure bandanas! Candy wore one on every hike we did last year!
