Oscar PUPDATE:. Ok we know Oscar is not a puppy but he thinks he is. Nothing can keep this spunky boy down. He is doing very well after yesterday's surgery. Better than we expected! He has spent most of the day resting and he finally ate a little dinner this afternoon. Oscar asked if we would remove the cone of shame before we took his picture.

Please help one of our clients

About three weeks ago Oscar broke his hind leg. It was a very freak thing were he twisted and let out a yelp. We thought maybe he pulled a muscle. We called the vet immediately because he could not put weight on his leg. After a couple days on anti-inflammatory medication he was not improving. The vet came out and did xrays which revealed that he had a badly broken femur. We were told Oscar has bone cancer. We hadn't shared with you all because we were facing a difficult decision of either amputating his leg or euthenasia and we weren't sure what we were going to do. The vet said we should take a little time to make the decision. We took the time to watch Oscar and let him tell us what he wants. Our volunteers can tell you that Oscar is still very full of energy and doesn't appear to have anything wrong with him, other than having the use of only three legs. He still chases Cody around and barks to get your attention. After consulting with both our regular vet and backup vet, and being told that he could have a good year of quality life, we decided that amputation will be the best option for Oscar. We are waiting on blood work to make sure his vital organs are functioning properly. If everything is good he is scheduled for surgery on July 18th. With that said the total cost of Oscar's xrays, medication, surgery and after care is going to be around $2500. So far we have a pledge of $500 from long time supporters. If you would like to help with covering Oscar's surgery please donate to Farmhouse Animal and Nature Sanctuary through flanzertrust.org and make a note for Oscar. Flanzer will match your personal donation up to $500 per household.
