It is our family and the amazing souls that we provide care for on a daily basis at our home. Helping animals is the foundation of what we do each day, and everything we do (eat, sleep, and breathe) is to make their lives better and give them a chance to live. We are not open to the public, but do let people visit by appointment. We are not a registered non-profit (501c3) at this time, but we do a

ccept donations toward the care of these amazing animals which currently includes 9 special needs (aka limited edition) residents.

Three years ago, this precious moment warmed our hearts on a snowy day. ❄️🐷 Luna, our sweet blind piglet, joined in on an online school day and quickly decided that 4th-grade lessons were way too exhausting. Turns out, it's hard to focus on schoolwork with an adorable piglet by your side – especially when she falls asleep in class! Snow days don’t get much sweeter than this. 💕

Throwback to sunnier days when Blue had enough of everyone always talking about that Blue from Jurassic Park. Velociraptors this, Velociraptors that—he's ready to prove he's just as fierce! 🦖💪

Hard to believe this was just last week—now we’re snowed in, and Blue is plotting his next big roar. After all this snow, we promise not to complain about the mud again… well, at least for a little while!

Casper looks like he's thriving in his snowy kingdom! ❄️ The goats and sheep have mapped out their own little pathways through the snow, making the best of this frozen world while we humans bundle up and brace ourselves for yet another winter storm tomorrow. With up to 6 more inches on the way, we could exceed our annual snow totals in just one week! It’s safe to say this snow isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, with temps barely rising above freezing.

The animals have adjusted well, but the hoomans? Not so much. We've decided we have no idea how people up north do this all winter—unless everyone has big barns to stay out of the weather!

We’re staying resilient, and the animals are definitely showing us how to adapt! But while we’re navigating our winter wonderland, our hearts go out to the people of Los Angeles battling unimaginable devastation from wildfires. The fires have claimed lives, destroyed thousands of structures, and displaced over 100,000 residents. The destruction is beyond comprehension, and the road to recovery will be long and arduous. Sending thoughts, prayers, and strength to everyone affected. 💙 Stay safe and hold on to the light.

🎉🎂 Happy 3rd Birthday, Levi! 🎂🎉

Levi’s journey has been nothing short of incredible. When this sweet Katahdin/Dorper Cross arrived at Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary at just 6 days old, he was so sick we weren’t sure if he’d survive. He had been abandoned by his mother and was battling a heavy parasite load that claimed the life of his friend Perry just days later. Levi fought through unimaginable odds and slowly began to recover, showing us his amazing will to live. 🐑💕

At just 11 months old, Levi faced another serious illness that left us worried we might lose him again. But with the love and support of his best friend Jebediah, Levi pulled through once more, proving just how strong and resilient he is. These two have been inseparable since they met, and their bond has helped Levi thrive. Today, they enjoy life together in the Big Pen with the rest of the herd, living the safe, happy life they deserve. 🐏💚

Levi’s story reminds us why we do what we do—every life matters, no matter how fragile it may seem. Join us in celebrating Levi’s 3rd birthday and the incredible journey he’s been on. We’re so proud of this brave, loving sheep and the joy he brings to our sanctuary every day. ❤️

Winnie: "HOOMAN MUDDER, there's a DINOSAUR in our house!"
Hooman Mudder: "Not quite, Winnie. That’s Maus, one of our newest rescues!"

Say hello to Maus, a female sulcata tortoise who’s settling in nicely after a tough start in life. Maus developed Metabolic Bone Disease early on, leading to pyramiding and a soft shell. Thankfully, she’s made an amazing recovery but needed a forever home—and we’re thrilled to provide one!

She’s currently about 10 inches long, cozy indoors, and thriving in her new environment. Fun fact: Maus came from the same place as Rosie, the turkey we recently rescued!

✨ Sulcata Fun Facts:
🌍 Third Largest Tortoise: Sulcatas are only outgrown by Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises!
🌵 Desert Dwellers: Native to the Sahara, these tortoises can handle extreme heat and drought.
⛏️ Expert Diggers: They can dig burrows up to 30 feet long!
🎂 Longevity Goals: With proper care, they can live 50–150 years.

We’re so happy Maus has found her safe haven here. Watch out world—this little “dinosaur” is ready to thrive! 🦖🐢

BRAIN FREEZE!!! Keith here, with some winter wisdom: don't eat the white stuff, no matter how tempting it looks! One second, you're munching away thinking it's a crunchy snack, and the next, you're questioning all your life choices as your brain goes numb. Moral of the story? Stick to hay, folks. It’s much less shocking and doesn’t come with the risk of looking like a goat-sicle. ❄️🥶

Throwback to a few days ago when Buddy was soaking up the sunshine and looking extra adorable! It’s hard to believe how warm it looked compared to the winter wonderland we’re in now. ❄️ Despite the snow and the cold, this sweet sheep has been loving it so far!

Ending this beautiful, whirlwind day with the biggest HAPPY 13th BIRTHDAY to our sweet and compassionate Abi! 💜 This incredible young lady is such a vital part of everything we do here at the sanctuary. She has stood by our side at outreach events, brought her warmth and care to some of the happiest moments, and shown unmatched strength and grace during the hardest ones.

Abi’s heart is as big as her love for animals—especially her beloved 'child,' Black Eyed Susan, with whom she shares the sweetest bond. Her passion, kindness, and unshakable dedication to helping those in need inspire us daily. This rescue life isn’t always easy for our kids, but Abi embraces it with such grace, resilience, and love, proving time and again just how special she is.

We couldn’t be more proud of the amazing young woman she’s becoming and can’t wait to see all the incredible things the future holds for her. Happy 13th Birthday, Abi—you are loved more than words can say! 🎉🎂💖

Shew, what a day it's been already! Our city officially hit **9 inches of snow today**, marking the **11th snowiest day of all time** and the snowiest single day in Louisville since February 4th, 1998! ❄️ Our average annual snowfall is only about 17 inches, so this has been a challenge to say the least.

We did our best to prepare, and we’re happy to say everyone is warm and has plenty of shelter. The pigs enjoyed warm oatmeal and are content hiding out in their houses until this white stuff disappears. 🐷 Meanwhile, the rest of the crew got extra hay to keep them cozy.

We’ve been doing wellness checks and clearing snow/ice from canopies every 1-2 hours to make sure everyone stays safe. 🛠️ With freezing rain still falling, we're crossing our fingers that the power holds through the night. There’s a short break in the forecast overnight before more snow rolls in tomorrow.

The good news? Everyone is happy and healthy despite the wild day! Here’s to weathering the storm together. ❤️

I think Winnie might have the best idea of all today—snoozing away the worries during this winter storm. 💤❄️

The latest update (about 2 hours ago) predicts additional snow and sleet accumulations of 2-4 inches, plus ice accumulations between one-tenth and half an inch by 6 PM tomorrow. We’re continuing hourly checks on everyone and clearing snow and ice from our canopies. Fingers crossed, we don’t lose power as the storm transitions to sleet and freezing rain.

Stay safe and warm, friends! We’re all in this together. 💕❄️🐾
