Kino was lost on the morning of July 4th at 10:30 AM after our Rover pet sitter got home from their morning walk, unleashed him INSIDE the house, left the front door open, and proceeded to go open the front gate of her patio to go retrieve an incoming pet. As soon as the pet sitter opened the front gate, Kino found his way out. The pet sitter then chased him down the street and encouraged 4 other strangers to help her, causing Kino to cross a busy street (Katella) onto Lewis St. They lost sight of him afterwards.
We were able to get a reply from a search dog team willing to help us on August 2nd. After our search dog team went to the sight to look for him. All 6 search dogs went to the same location when taken separately and starting from different locations. The last known scent from Kino is next to the 5 freeway at the Katella exit. All 6 dogs sat down at the grass area inbetween the freeway and the exit. This means Kino either ran onto the freeway and got hit, or someone picked him up at that spot. We called caltrans and went to the shelter to look at the deceased animal list and have not found anything matching Kinos description. We've put up large signs in the area. The last scent known for Kino is not far from where he was last seen so we suspect someone either picked him up or he died on the morning of July 4th. Please let us know if you have any information and share this with all your friends and family. We need to know if he is still out there 💔
Minor update 08/23: The Rover pet sitter finally replied after a MONTH of silence. She blames losing Kino on us had we "better informed her" about Kino's "runaway tendencies" she would have been more aware and taken better care. This is coming from the same idiot that placed a brand new leash in our bag and did not tell us about it until we asked. When we asked her where is old leash is, she replied another dog IN HER CARE chewed it in HALF.
