Halloween happens every year and we might as well use it as a training opportunity then pretend it doesn’t exist
We’ve trained dogs to be able to attend Halloween horror nights and assist their handler confidently, THIS IS NOT FOR EVERY DOG
It takes a LOT of training to get your dog to the point of being able to handle HHN
You always have to consider what’s fair for the dog as well and if the handler can bring a service human instead
There’s a lot of ways to counter condition! When training around fireworks I would get some dogs to run around and play tug with me
I would be able to redirect their attention and get them to forget about the scary thing
Because we had so many dogs we weren’t able to do that here but instead we used a lot of positive reinforcement with treats and vocal praise
Work with a professional if you don’t know how to make sure your dog is having a positive experience, you don’t want to accidentally create a trigger for your dog!
Creating a solid down stay isn’t just about obedience, it’s about building a trusting relationship. If my dog didn’t trust this situation and didn’t trust my judgment he would act on his own. Instead, because he knows I will always come back and always have him in mind he stays in his down with trust that I know what’s best.
I recommend this type of training for any service dog and even pets. There’s no reason you can’t uphold your dog to a higher standard as long as you’re willing to put in the work!
My sweet Jack has been staying at my moms to help me adjust here and this is the video she sends me 🥹❤️
This is just one of many things Theo is learning, he’s a very energetic puppy so we have to make sure he can settle when asked and stay engaged with his handler
This was hard for him since he imagines the backyard as his playground, good job Theo and Sherry!
Cooper 10 month old service dog in training, working with his owners! We are still working through a lot of fears but since our last board and train he is walking so much more confident☺️
10 month old, service dog in training, Cooper🐾. What a great moment for Cooper! He has a big problem with confidence but handled this like a pro💪🏼 Practicing things at home before going out into public is a key to our success, the more confidence he gains here, the more it will show when we go out nextI practice this regularly when I go to get the mail or take the trash out with whichever dog I’m training. Safety is my first priority, if you’re going to try this start with a long line and when there are no cars around, happy training!
Happy new year from all the pups here! 🥳🎉
Astro’s first time at @seaworldorlando! I wanted him to be able to enjoy the experience and observe the animals as long as he was able to disengage and pay attention to me when needed. I didn’t want to reward an overstimulated state of mind, if he were to get too excited then I would put him in a down to relax. Super happy with how he handled himself! 🐠🐙🐳
When I leave Emily with the dogs 🤪🍦
Bella’s rocking our off leash walks! 🤘🏼🐕
Teaching puppy to be comfortable in the water!
Bella is only a few months old, watch how I get her comfortable with the water!
Astro getting some practice with balance and coordination! I try to find things in our day to day life to further his skills and build confidence🌲⚖️🐕
Astro naturally alerted on video😍
I haven’t taught him to alert, this is something he picked up on his own, it’s been hard for me after Saxon passed and Astro has been there and helped me through it
I was having trouble adjusting to the cold air and huffed before starting his jump and he stopped to boop me and give kisses
Although I wasn’t actually struggling it’s cute to see he has picked up on my body language and is willing to help regardless
Love this pup so much 😭❤️
Socialization at its finest! Lola’s biggest weakness was kids so once I saw this soccer practice I had to stop!
We worked on self control, observing and socializing ⚽️👧
Some fun training teaching Astro how to play volleyball! Peep his little 180 at the end 🐾🏐🤩
Welcome home Astro! He is a border collie pup and is going to learn many things! He will be helping me with training dogs in the future so he will have service dog training, learn tricks and get into some sports! Excited to see what we can do together as a team!!😍
Taught the goats to shake! It only took a day for them to pick it up, now they won’t stop haha 🐐❤️
Every morning I go to greet all the animals and give them breakfast, we all look forward to it! The cow is my neighbors but he loves the dogs and runs over whenever we’re outside. All peace and love with the animals here❤️
