💡 We know kids need to learn new things for development and contentment, but did you know our dogs do, too? 🤓

Dogs are some of the most popular pets in the world, and for good reason. They are loyal 🥰, friendly 😍, and make great companions 🐾. However, dogs also require a lot of care and attention, especially when it comes to keeping them mentally and physically stimulated. 💪

This can be done through enrichment activities such as:

1️⃣ providing them with new toys and puzzles 🎁(check out our subscription box if you want a done-for-you option based on your dog's specific needs)

2️⃣ taking them on different types of walks 🐕🚶‍♀️ and

3️⃣ teaching them new tricks 🐶

By engaging your dog's mind and body in this way you can help prevent boredom and destructive behavior while promoting their overall health and well-being. 🙌

Your dog is stressed out and you don't know what to do about it. 😩

It's hard to keep your cool when your dog is constantly barking, lunging, or growling at other dogs or people. 🤦‍♀️

🤓 Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT) is one of several proven techniques that can help your pup learn how to reduce their stress levels. In the graphic, the dog's stress is just like the rising water level. On the far right, he's in over his head and we are seeing the behavior we don't want. But we can help him learn how to disengage.

Tomorrow we'll cover a game that you can use to help your dog overcome some of their triggers!

You're out for a walk with your dog, and suddenly they start barking and lunging at another dog. 😩 What do you do? 👇

💡 It can be really scary when your dog starts reacting to other dogs on walks. Maybe you've been told that your dog is just "being protective" or that you need to "train them better." But the truth is, if your dog is reactive, it's not your fault. And there IS something you can do about it.

Four key behaviors can lead to aggression:

1️⃣ Reactivity: this is when dogs overreact to a certain situation or stimulus (e.g., men, or in Bailey's case it's the very threatening baby stroller 😂). What is almost always going on is that the dog is afraid of that particular stimulus or situation.

2️⃣ Fight or flight: this is when a dog feels trapped or threatened. It's different from reactivity in that the dog feels trapped.

3️⃣ Resource guarding: your dog wants to protect something important. This could be food or even a person.

4️⃣ Leash reactivity: this is when dogs are reactive while on leash. They are trying to make the threat go away and rarely follow through with a bite (but we should still help them through this fear!).

Follow to see our post tomorrow on how to help your dog through some of these challenges.

"The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones."

- Confucius

On days where there seems to be so much work to be done, so much wrong with the world, it's comforting to remember that we don't have to do it all at once. One step at a time. One small stone at a time. There will be an impact.

Have you ever felt like your dog keeps destroying things and you didn't know how to stop it? If this sounds like you, don't worry. Dogs are born to chew! And we can help them channel that energy in ways that don't destroy the couch cushions.

More often than not, a tired dog is a calm dog. And a calm dog is a happy dog. And a calm, happy dog means a calm, happy human.

3 Key Tips for Preventing Destructive Chewing
- Mental stimulation
- Physical exercise
- Only grating freedom to move about the space after it has been earned

Mental stimulation may be one of the best tips for reducing "bad behavior" in dogs. You don't have to buy fancy dog puzzles or spend hours outside exercising them. Short, consistent training sessions (think 10 minutes a day) and games that require them to use their nose can work wonders.

Figuring out the specific cause can be really helpful for limiting some of this behavior. Common causes (listed below) could include:
- Teething in puppies
- Normal chewing behaviors
- Not enough exercise or mental stimulation
- Stress and frustration
