Thank you all for your support!

Thank you Shelton Farmers Market!

Starting our off strong with our first ever featured Vendor! You'll start seeing these posts regularly as a post, helping you get to know the faces and people behind the amazing products that you can find each week at the !

Our very first featured Vendor is Becci Baker of Baker Greens! You'll see Becci just about every week as a cornerstone of the Shelton Farmers Market, and her microgreens can also be spotted at many local businesses such as Mestizos, County Line Fire Pizzeria & Tapas and Marmo.

Do you know Becci? Say "Hi" here, or feel free to share any stories in the comments, she's an important part of keeping our market full of positive energy and running smoothly!

Here's her story in her own words.

SFM: How long have you been growing microgreens? What got you interested in it?

BB: I’ve been growing microgreens since the spring of 2020. With the pandemic we felt we needed to pivot to something consumable, sustainable and nutritious. We found that in microgreens. Once I started digging into the nutrition, the growing and the education, I was sold. The first year was all about finding the best selling options and educating the community. So many great connections were made!

SFM: What is your favorite thing about growing microgreens?

BB: My favorite thing is the rhythm to growing and the community connections. I am committed to spending time every day to plant and tend to the greens. Much has happened in our family over the last few years. This rhythm that requires me to step out of that is my peace. My hands in the soil and the scent of the greens in the air is everything.

SFM: What's the best part of being a Shelton Farmers Market Vendor?

BB: It’s absolutely the community. Both the vendor community and the customer community. This last week at market I have hugged vendors in celebration of big sales and been high-fived by a customer for selling out. Even before they got theirs! Week after week I see the vendors come together to bring our community a great environment to see our wares. Equally I see our customer community show up to support them. It literally is my favorite day of the week.

SFM: Why do you think Farmers Markets are important?

BB: Farmers markets are essential in keeping the community in touch with where their food and goods comes from. They know the growers, crafters and food producers. They see artists creating the items they enjoy and gift to others. Their support both emotionally and financially make an exponential impact on each vendor is something that has no comparison to shopping in big stores.

SFM: What's one thing you think your patrons might be surprised to learn about you?

BB: Haha probably nothing, we tend to talk about everything. One thing is that I was adopted as a child. That chosen love that my parents instilled in me definitely comes through in my love for the people of our community. They come in customers and stay as family.

Thank you Becci, for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk to us! We appreciate your smiling face each week, and of course your delicious microgreens! 🥰😋

07/06/2024

I recently attended the City of Shelton, Council meeting where on the agenda Miguel Gutierrez was slated to give the proclamation that the city will recognize June as Pride Month, of which he did a beautiful job. With a request for allies to attend, I was there. The portion of public comments was unsurprisingly mixed but surprisingly moving. As an ally but not a resident within the city, I sat in the back observing, giving space to those who felt they needed to speak. Since then, I have felt the need to speak. The words from a Pink song have rang through my thoughts – I invite you to make it right. So here I am.
I identify as a Christian, brought up in the church. There is a lifetime of belief and faith there. I was also brought up in the time of the AIDS epidemic and the time of Pat Robertson’s reaction to that. As a child I heard my father say the words ‘They should just round up all those people and put them on their own island.” Isn’t it beautiful that people can grow and change?
Before my dad retired, one of his closest friends and coworkers was a gay man. When my husband and I blended our families, my dad knew and loved his new q***r grandson as his own. Though with three adopted kids, making them as his own was his heart. Now as a Christian, my faith is between myself and God. I will not use his teachings to judge and bully people. Love is what we are required to do, and love is what I have to give.
What most of the opposition to the recent proclamation utilized was scripture. To say that this hurt my heart is an understatement. But I am not here to debate that. What I do want to say is that we don’t have to agree to be kind. And we don’t have to agree to not spread hate.
Many do not agree with Indigenous Peoples Day – and yet we live on historically tribal lands.
Many do not agree with supporting immigrants – and yet we are all immigrants.
Many do not believe in Christmas – and yet we are Christmas Town.
We support these proclamations to create a safe space for people to be seen in a positive way. In a space where they have been historically been belittled, bullied, ostracized and worse. We have done this as a country and will continue to do so to make it right, until we can make a world where we no longer have to. Thank you mayor and the city council for supporting this proclamation. For working to create a space safe to be and support our community for being who they are.
Thank you also to the Shelton Farmers Market, where my business Baker Greens calls home. Your support of our community, our diversity and our small businesses is a true example of the hearts of our residents.

We're always looking to find additional ways to thank our loyal customers and encourage our community to shop local and support our small businesses. This is it folks, we will not have chicks again for at least the next month. We're cleaning out the brooder for May, so we're having a huge sale this weekend.

We are not holding any back or reserving them, they are unsexed/straight run, fed all organic food, and just over a week old. All chicks will be sold as a mixed brooder, meaning that we are not separating them out by breed (though they are part of our intentional breeding programs). This is your chance to add color to your egg basket at the lowest price we've ever sold.

425 W Cota St from 10a to 3p - we suggest you get there as soon as we open! Shelton Farmers Market

You know we’d love to see you!! 💚💚
