FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED PLEASE FOR MEDICAL SPECIAL NEEDS PARALYZED XENA.

Feeling lonely? Well, Satchel’s Last Resort has the remedy - Foster or adopt Xena! You will have a constant companion who will think you’re the best thing since sliced bread.

Xena looks like she is a Black Mouth Cur puppy but she is 6 years old and weighs 25 lbs. The weight is important because she can’t walk on her own and you will have to be physically able to carry her. She can get around in the house and yard by flopping her body. She also has no issues in attending to bathroom business on her own.

The neurologist who consulted on Xena's care when she came to Satchel's a few months ago, believes an untreated virus or bacteria as a puppy could possibly have left her in this condition. She has been receiving neuro stimulation therapy for the last few months as well as swimming in the pool and practicing walking in her wheelchair and she has made a lot of progress.

Not being able to walk doesn’t hamper this girl’s spirit though. She is always happy, especially when she is by your side. She loves just hanging out as well as going for walks in her stroller. If you like to sleep in, you have yet another reason to adopt Xena, as she is not one to wake you up. She loves people (including children) and attention. Xena is currently in a foster home with other dogs and gets along great with them all - even though she sometimes can be a bit of a spitfire. Xena is looking for a new foster home with someone able to spend more time helping her with her therapy exercises. We have not had her around cats but it’s not like they couldn’t stay out of her way if she was too interested. Xena is a one of a kind and everyone who meets her falls in love.

Looking to foster? We supply you with all Xena's needs. We just ask that you give Xena love and spend time with her working on her exercises to possibly make her stronger. If you're looking for a new best friend and really want to make a difference in a dog's life, submit the foster application found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and make an appointment to meet this gem today!

Scarlett is a most precious resident at Satchels, she is adored by all who see her smile. Scarlett had distemper as a puppy which has resulted in life long neurological issues. That means nothing to her, Scarlett is a spunky heartthrob. She’s quirky, loves other animals and people. With her condition she has a special way of communicating and is always up for a chatter. In her previous home we were told she was picked on by the other pups but her she has come out of her shell and she is running with the best of them! A bigger, older puppy would be the perfect playmate for her as she sometimes plays with her mouth. An adult only home would be best for Scarlett since her talking can sometimes be a little rambunctious.

She does require help with potty training and needs a home where someone is home most of the time. She hasn’t caught the hang of how to sit or those basics yet, but she will come to you quicker than anyone you know and listens very well to no! Once you see her spinning with joy for you, you won’t want to spend another day without her!

Scarlett is 2-3 years old and weighs approximately 45 lbs. For an appointment to meet her, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

CAT AVAILALBE FOR ADOPTION

I need a furever home! My name is Ace. I am FIV+ with no symptoms. I am very friendly with a large personality; a little rascal that loves to cuddle and explore. Other cats love me but I would be ok with being the only cat.

KITTY AVAILALBE FOR ADOPTION

Meet Maddie!
Need help with a kitty in Tampa Bay area!!! So...we found this kitty while walking our dogs. She looked so weak and covered in mats. I thought she was a kitten so I crawled under a parked semi to grab her and took her back home. We took her to the vet that morning and this is what they found: 4 lb female calico, 2 teeth, infested with fleas (those are gone now), hook worms (also treated and gone), covered in mats (as you can see the vet shaved off most of them, slightly hypothermia, anemic, heart murmor, and just overall weak. Shr also can't meow or cry (more than likely from the URI) and she is positive for FIV. We have had her for about a week and she is doing much better....still slow moving around when she does, but she is eating, drinking and using her litter box. We have 5 animals currently who already don't get along and she is really stressing them out. If anyone is willing to take her in, please let us know! She is the sweetest thing in the world....all she wants is to be held and pet. We just want to find her a good home.

UPDATE - ADOPTED!

DOG AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
* SPECIAL NEEDS - PARALYZED BACK END *

A few months back, Satchel's got a call from a neighboring county shelter about a sweet girl in need. Poppie is guessed to be about a 6 year old terrier mix and is paralyzed from the waist down. We aren’t sure what caused her injury but it’s not stopping her. Since her arrival at Satchel’s, Poppie has caught the eye of volunteers and staff who are always there to support her special needs. She is currently in a foster home and is working with a therapist to see if we are able to help her regain any use in her back legs.

Poppie is a vibrant social girl who loves spending time with her human companions, going on lunch dates hanging out in her stroller or simply running around in her wheelchair. Poppie gets along with other dogs after the correct introduction and could possibly live with a cat.

Poppie is fixed, microchipped, negative heartworm, and up to date on all vaccines. Her adoption fee is $175.

Please submit adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

UPDATE: CATS ARE ADOPTED/NO LONGER AVAILABLE

BONDED PAIR Jack and Goldie.
Ahoy matey, Jack the Pirate Cat here. Back in my sailing days I lost an eye in a skirmish with another mighty sailor cat (or at least that’s my story). I find my way around just fine with one eye. I'm a super friendly and greet everyone who comes to visit. Have you ever heard of a diluted tortie-tabby cat? Well, when you meet me you’ll notice that I have both a light gray tortoise shell appearance and tabby striping, hence I’m a tortie-tabby! Plus, for good measure, I have a white face and beautiful big, white mittens. Unlike some torties I do not have tortitude. I’m a laid back, great guy who is always looking for a good petting session. I like to chatter about the days events so get ready for some fun conversations. Male torties, like me, are a good omen in the house, and some say we are a bit psychic. I predict when you meet me you will soon go home with a fluffy gray bundle of fun. One more thing, I would like my feline sibling Goldie to come home with us also. She is almost blind and, although we don't hang out much, she needs me to give her comfort. Jack is estimated to be 12 years old and Goldie 8 years old. If you’d like to meet this sweet pair, then please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Their adoption fee is $100. They are fixed, updated on vaccines, microchipped and FIV/FeLV negative.

UPDATE: MIGHTY AND SEAN HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!

Meet Mighty and Sean, 2 FIV+ fosters who are looking for a home together.

Mighty is an 8 year old polydactyl gentle giant. He loves to cuddle, and he gets along with other cats. He has 2 scarred ears from previous hematomas but they stay pretty clean and are easy to maintain. He is talkative and says “hello” as he walks through the house. He’s gentle and kind and very handsome.

Sean is a 5 year old gentle shy cat. He looks up to Mighty and feels safe with him. He gets along with other cats. He is gentle but much more shy and scared at first until he gets to know you. He loves to be brushed and spends a lot of time outside on our screened in porch.

Mighty and Sean are being fostered through the Last Chance Animal Sanctuary in Sarasota. Usually the fee for adults is $75 each, but if someone is adopting both we'll do it for $100. They would do well in a quiet environment, no little kids or small kittens, but adult cats would be fine and having a protected outdoor space would be great.

For questions and adoption inquiries, please contact Danielle at 941-993-5082.

UPDATE: MCCAVITY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

Meow! My name is McCavity and I am a calm and friendly 12 lb lump of lovin’.
I can live with other cats, I have perfect potty habits, I like to be petted, and I'm not crazy about being held, but I tolerate it. I will play occasionally with toys, but usually by myself.
I am laid back, and I always sleep in my foster mom’s
bedroom near her.
They say that I am 2 years old. I have a “longy” tail indicating
that I may have a bit of Manx in me. My tail is about ¾ of
what you would expect, making me very unique.
I am FIV positive, but I do not bite nor scratch so no worries
about transmission to other kitties.
I have been vetted, including neuter and rabies vaccine.
I am the perfect, easy cat to live with and to keep you
company in a quiet home.
