Hi
I got a call from a pet parent
Saying that the the pet dog is dull,not taking food and the body of the pet is warm suspecting for fever.
For 1 day they had given melobest tablet ,when the tablet was given the pet was active and had taken food.
Again in the evening pet was dull and not taking food.
I had visited their home and checked the pet.
Temperature was 106.2,
Dull,Lethargy,Not taking the food
Collected the blood sample and the result was the indication of tick fever where platelet count was 40000.
Once the medication has started has become active and food intake was good.
When I spoke to the pet parent,they were saying they had seen ticks 1 or 2 ticks last 2 weeks ago.
My suggestion to the pet parents is
Please check the pet regularly-if you are noticing ticks means,please keep them under control by applying spot on/or other tick control measure basing on the advice of the vet.
I see some homes where ticks will be more in such a way that they will be crawling over the walls or when they sweep the home they will be getting ticks.
In those conditions house and the premises also should be cleaned using amitraz solution on weekly basis for three to 4 weeks.
SYMPTOMS OF TICK FEVER:
High fever 104⁰F and above
Activity very low
Lethargy
Lack of appetite-Food intake will be very low.
Tick fever is 100% treatable in the initial stages.
Once it's delayed then chances of recovery will be limited.
