Summer Holiday season is soon upon us and some of our regular dogs are off on their hols meaning we’ll have a few spaces opening up for the next 6 weeks.
If anyone would like any additional walks then drop me a message. Priority will be given to current customers so let me know asap before I open up any spaces to new doggies 🐕.
☀️ Summer is an interesting time to be a dog walker. Hot weather, school holidays, grass seeds etc..
Of course we love to see the sunshine at long last but it does bring some challenges.
Your dog’s safety is our number one priority, and with hotter weather forecast, it’s important we remain flexible and adjust our walks to suit your furry friends.
🚐 Our vans are air conditioned. We have portable water bottles and dog bowls and know where all the good spots are to make the most of shade and fresh water sources 🌳.
If your walk is likely to be impacted, you will receive a message the day before your booking, confirming approximate pick up time. Should temperatures be high and your dog would prefer a garden visit to a walk, or a morning walk instead of an afternoon, we will do our best to accommodate, just let me know 😊.

🐶 Would your dog benefit from a regular countryside adventure walk with a group of friendly dogs and a professional human companion?
🐾 It could be to break up their day whilst you’re at work, simply for socialisation or to improve their confidence.
What’s included in our 1 hour group walks:
• Collection/drop off from your home
• Transportation to a rural walk in an air-conditioned vehicle with professionally fitted, individual crates
• Accompanied by a caring, knowledgeable and trustworthy human
• Premium treats
• Regular photo/video updates of what your dog has been up to
Walks are £15 for 1 dog, and £10 for any additional dogs from the same household.
🐕 All dogs must be comfortable in the company of other dogs and have good off-lead recall.
We offer a morning (0900-1115), lunchtime (1115-1330) and afternoon walk (1330 - 1545).
🏡 Our regular dog walking clients are also eligible for our holiday housesitting service.
All new customers get a complimentary meet and greet, followed by a 1hr trial walk (this is charged at usual rate) before joining our group walks.

We do our best to maintain and improve a dog’s training and behaviour, but individual training just isn’t possible in a group environment. Think how hard it can be training your dog 1-1, now imagine throwing 5 other off-lead dogs into the mix 😂 group walks aren’t suitable for all dogs, sometimes they need some extra training before joining us. We’re fussy with which dogs we take on so that each dog is happy and their individual needs are met ♥️ all new dogs come on a trial walk and we maintain an honest and open relationship with all customers on an ongoing basis to make sure everyone is happy and enjoying their walks with their furriends in a fun and safe environment.
16 weeks in the job and it’s like K2’s always been a part of the Buddies family. I’ve gained a wonderful friend as well as a brilliant colleague! It’s a big step taking on my first employee but I know it’s been the best decision for me and my business.
It’s been a busy few months, meeting new doggies and their humans, completing both a First Aid and Professional Dog Walking course, getting familiar with all the walks and having a fab time whilst doing so.
Thank you K2 for all your hard work and lovely company so far! Me and the pups love having you as part of the team ♥️.

Now it’s not just one Katrina caring for your pups but two! Not just Beryl 🚐, but Betty as well, and most importantly, not just Maia, but Bertie too 🐶.
K2 joins us as a full time employee and will be accompanying me on group walks for a couple of weeks in order to meet all current doggie customers and their owners. New customers will then slowly be added into the mix and K2 will be venturing out with her own groups in no time.
Those on the waiting list will be contacted this week to arrange meet and greets and a trial walk, ready for joining the Buddies gang mid-end of October!
Here’s to a bigger and even better Buddies! Let the fun begin 🥳.

My mind may be a little boggled for the next couple of months, but it’s going to be worth it 😍.

We recently lost a much loved member of the Buddies gang, who I know was adored by so many of you 💔.
Meg (aka Meggy Bear 🐻) sadly passed away after struggling with bone cancer for a short while.
She was taken from this world far too soon and has left a big hole in the hearts of everyone who knew her 😢.
Meg’s best friend and little brother, Kubo is a bit lost without her so he’s joining us on an extra walk each week (and might be getting extra treat and cuddle rations too 👀).
I’ll miss Meggy so much, from her howling when I’d arrive to pick her up for walkies, her snoring so loud I’d have to turn the tv up, her wonderful big bear hugs, her endless love for a puddle.. and I’ll even miss standing around in freezing temperatures because Meg needed lie down on her walk even though it was snowing 😆.
Meg really was the greatest companion, both for Kubo and her humans, and it’s been the greatest pleasure to have known her and make lots of wonderful memories together over the past few years ♥️.

How a Dog Walker Changed Everything! 🐶❤️
In our August 23 issue, we bring you the incredible story of Kate Faulkner and her beloved furry duo, Wiz and Charley, along with their amazing dog walker, Katrina Swatton of Buddies Dog Walking. Prepare to be inspired! 🌟🐾
Kate, initially sceptical about using a dog walker, couldn't comprehend why anyone would need one. But fate had other plans when Charley joined their family, becoming an inseparable companion to Wiz.
Concerned about Charley's separation anxiety and Wiz's need for some alone time, Kate stumbled upon a social media post recommending Katrina's services. Serendipity struck when they met during a walk, and a connection was formed.
Starting out, Kate was naturally nervous about Wiz's first outing with a dog walker. But her worries soon vanished as Katrina's calm and confident demeanour won both her and Wiz over. Trust and open communication became the foundation of their relationship.
Fast forward to today, and both Wiz and Charley eagerly join Katrina on group walks. It's become a highlight of their day, enhancing their socialization skills and bringing them immense joy. And for Kate, it's a blessing as it allows her to work without distractions. 🏞️💼

What a treat to have been asked to be part of this feature in along with some familiar faces 🐕.
20 years ago, a much younger Katrina and her Border Collie, Buddy spent their weekends competing in dog agility and obedience and spending their pocket money on dog treats and Your Dog Magazine!
Now, that same Katrina is being featured in said magazine, and it’s all because of Buddy.. the inspiration for Buddies Dog Walking 🐶.
So, thank you Buddy for being the greatest doggie in the world (equal to Maia of course) and encouraging my passion for all things dogs!

It’s great having a job you love, but easy to not take time for yourself. Not just for me, but Maia too 💕 she comes to work with me every day and also loves her ‘job’ but it’s great to take some quality time away together to relax and explore.
We’ve got a busy few months ahead of us, what with taking on our first employee 🥳 and lots of new doggies joining, so this week will be perfect for resetting and we’ll be able to get back to work with a fresh head!

✨ Exciting news for Buddies! ✨
I would love to introduce you to a new member of the Buddies gang who will officially be joining the team this October 🥳.
Kat (another Katrina..what were the chances 😆) who will be known as “K2” to avoid confusion will be joining as another full time dog walker and house sitter, along with her Cocker Spaniel, Bertie 🐶 and Betty, her super duper van 🚐.
Due to this pending expansion, there will be more group walking (and housesitting) spaces available 🐕 🏡, starting from mid October. Dog walks are currently fully booked but I will be contacting those on the waiting list later this Summer to arrange meet and greets and then I will open up my books to new customers!
It’s a very exciting time for Buddies and I hope you’ll join me in welcoming Kat 👩🏻Bertie 🐶 and Betty 🚐 to the team! 🐾

I have always loved the great outdoors, no matter what the weather and have a great love of all animals, as anyone that knows me will tell you.
I already live an active lifestyle and like keeping fit but I do love to curl up on the sofa with my best buddy Bertie, a good book and a big bar of chocolate!
Bertie is my loving companion and loves nothing more than long walks and splashing about in the nearest puddle or river, living his best life!
We are both looking forward to seeing everyone soon and joining the team!”

Housesitting the beautiful Poppy for the weekend 🐾.
It’s looking to be a scorcher ☀️ so we’ll be having an early walk with a couple of furriends, and then chilling the rest of the day.
Will give me some time to practice this photography malarkey 📸!
A surprising amount of time and thought goes into group dog walking 🐕.
Not only do we have to find the right customers who want walks on the same days at the same time. They need to live close by to each other (so that we can minimise travel 🚐 and maximise time on walks).
There needs to be a nice mix of personalities. Ideally a couple who like to play, a couple who like to do their own thing, and a couple who fluctuate between the two.
It’s all about making sure each dog is content and their individual requirements are met. This means understanding specific breed requirements too. Our walks combine lots of sniffing, short bursts of playtime and a little bit of training and posing too 📸!
Another factor to consider is some older/younger or some breeds can’t walk as far, and others could go for miles.
So it’s not a case of getting 6 random dogs together and hoping it works, sometimes dogs need to be moved around to find a group that works best for them!
That way we can have a calm walk where each dog is happy and can enjoy their time with their friends in a relaxed environment.
The end result is happy doggies, a happy dog walker, and happy owners 😊.

Today was the beautiful Winnie’s 3rd Birthday 🥳 she even brought yummy biscuits to share with all her furriends.
Everybody’s all paw-ty’d out. I know Frank and Maia will sleep well tonight! 💤
Eyes on the prize 👀
We always have tasty, healthy snacks at Buddies. I see treats as a supplement to the dogs usual diet and love to mix things up to keep them interested. Treats are used to positively enforce desired behaviours and of course for getting those noses working hard on sniffari’s!
Some of our favourites include:

Dehydrates beef liver, sheep lung and chicken hearts from
Liver paste from
Roast chicken.. oh and of course… SAUSAGES! 🤤
Something a little different.. I thought I’d document my first attempt at using a ‘fancy camera’ 😆.
I’m so grateful a friend has leant me their camera to have a go and I think I’ve ‘caught the bug’ so to speak 🪲!
So many buttons and settings to figure out but I’m looking forward to getting me head round it all and seeing how things progress.

Buddies is named after my late, beautiful Border Collie, Buddy. He was my best mate growing up and we used to have a wonderful time together training in agility, obedience, heelwork to music and more! I hope that I can meet some of your own four legged ‘buddies’ and in turn become their companion and vice versa!
An animal lover all my life, and a true country girl. I love exploring walks in The Vale and testing out the occasional pub along the way (there’s such a great selection after all!).
