🐰🧬 Megacolon is not commonly recognized in the rabbit community and something to consider if your rabbit has frequent bouts of stasis with no known cause.

👩🏼‍⚕️ Many vets can be unaware of the genetic markings associated with megacolon. This is why as owners it’s important to be aware of these issues and share them!

This disease is also completely genetic and typically the result of poor breeding. It is not due to an improper diet.

🌿 But I thought Hamsters were herbivores?!?

Contrary to popular belief hamsters eat meat!

🐛 Hamsters need a lot of protein in their diet. In the wild, it is believed insects make up 50% of their diet!

🌱 Many people are hesitant to offer insects. Oftentimes because they’re not a fan of bugs or perhaps they’re vegan/vegetarian and don’t want to offer any animal protein.

As a vegetarian myself, I believe it’s best to offer hamsters a diet that closely resembles what they would eat in nature. This includes offering animal protein!

🦠🐰 RHDV2 - You’ve likely heard of it, the signs and symptoms. But do you know where it came from? Or that early variants were used for bio-control?

Todays Educational Post is a little science heavy, I try my best to make my content easy to understand but this one may be a little more complex for some!

I actually did my bio-chemistry summative on RHDV2 so most of the information was pulled from there!

It’s recommended you get your rabbit 💉 against RHDV2 which can be administered by your local vet. This virus is incredibly fatal and there is no cure.

Not only are they great for small critters, like mice and dwarf hamsters. They are also amazing for larger pets! You can fill the tubs with hay and treats or just give it to your pet to chew!
