Question: Does a mini pig exist?

Answer: This is a hot topic question. Many say an adamant NO, while others say OF COURSE there is. But what’s the truth?

There are many pig breeds that are different from a farm pig. They are breeds that are smaller than a 450 pound hog. Potbellied pigs are an example of this. Potbellied pigs can be large as well. They generally range from 100-300 pounds.

Then there is the American Mini Pig. These are a mixture of several breeds of pigs. They range from 75-200 pounds -- which is “mini” when compared to a farm hog.

So does a mini pig exist? YES! But is a mini pig a true breed? No. When I use the word “mini” it’s more of a classification than a breed. My pigs are not farm hogs, they are mini pigs.

The term “teacup” is a word used by slick salesmen. This is not a word to use for classifications. It’s very deceitful and misleading. There is no such thing as a healthy teacup pig. They have been starved and in**ed. They won’t live longer than 3 years or so because although their body stops growing, their organs will not. So they die a painful death. 😡

Mini pigs do exist - a mini pig is any pig under 300 pounds. This doesn’t mean that mini pigs grow to be 250 pounds but they could. This is why it is important to find an ethical breeder who will not lie about size.

One things for sure if you get a piggy from us they will be used to kids and loved on to the max, socialization is key to making your piglet into a good pet!
