Echo the Akita Echo is a rescue American Akita trained as a multipurpose service dog.

Echo has a new patch we got off Patience and Love on Etsy. It reads: If handler is down, 1.Do not call 911 unless handler is hurt. 2. Do not separate us. 3. Give us space.
Hoping it helps us out in the long run.
On a side note, I'm reaching one WEEK seizure free!

We were walking out of our house to go to work when the neighbors boxer jumped the fence and came over to play with Echo. Echo didn't even react. Is he even an akita? 😂

Echos potty "dance." He cracks me up!

It's not easy handling a toddler and a service dog... but it's a lot easier when your dog is perfectly behaved. 😂

For anyone who still thinks Akitas are all mean and dangerous dogs, or can't be service dogs; please take note of what happened last night.
We had a fundraiser last night for our service dog training org. We invited all (leashed) dogs to come and do a trick contest, and have Valentine's photos done, and make doggie Valentine's. It was a really fun event.
Echo was face to face almost constantly with strange dogs. Never once did he let out a growl or show any signs of aggression. He was probably the friendliest dog there. Even with fully intact doge de bordoex in his face (they became best friends.) Don't let your prejudice on breeds blind you to the possibilities.

"Why does your dog wear shoes?"
He wears shoes for the same reason you do. As a working dog, he encounters much more things that a "pet" dog doesn't/wouldn't. The snow can give him frostbite, the ice melt burns his feet. There are chemicals on the floor used to clean up mud and dirt. Their are hazards on the floor like staples, glass and other things that could cut his feet.
In the summer the pavement gets hot. Hot enough to burn his feet in a matter of seconds.
Why does my dog wear shoes? For the SAME REASON as you.

Muzzle work
I like to make sure my dogs are muzzle trained. As loving and gentle as he is, you never know when or if an injury might happen and you need to muzzle your dog.

He has all the first steps of retrievals down! This is an amazing feet for an akita... they dont much care for picking things up! Im so proud of him. :-*

Akitas are life.✌

The Akita was developed to hunt wild boar, deer and black bear during the 1600s in the Akita province of Honshu Island, Japan. Besides hunting, he is an excellent guard dog. In 1931, the breed was declared a national monument by the government of Japan. He is a large, powerful, graceful and noble in bearing. He is renowned for his strength, courage and loyalty. A very dignified dog, he is often aloof around strangers. While being a gentle animal, he has a dominant personality so needs proper training. He does not react well to harsh treatment. He is considered by the Japanese to be "tender in heart and strong in strength."

09/01/2017

Ive been told Echo should be a model... where do i sign him up!?

31/12/2016

Echo doing the "cover" command. We use this task any time my back is to a crowd, especially at an ATM or anywhere i am vulnerable (in lines at the store.)
Echo was great as always when we went and did some last minute New Years shopping.
While in line a lady started talking to him; and he corrected himself by looking away! I was so proud of him because he is typically so friendly to anyone who acknowledges him. My man. ♡

25/12/2016

Echo activly tasking during a seizure. I was so preoccupied this morning running around doing stuff that i dont remember if he gave an alert, all i remember is he was clung to me like stink on s**t.
I was told he did phenomenal. My brother moved me over onto my side (havent taught echo to do that yet...) and Echo sat next to me to keep me in position. I wasnt given information on when moved to my feet and what he did. Im pretty amazed with him. Especially because he has only been around me during a couple big seizures.

24/12/2016

This dog is so amazing. I love him so much. Had a LONG day. First we went to the social security office to fill out more paperwork (bleck) then we went to the mall to exchange a few things and found an amazing dress that i hope my bby girl would wear one day to prom (one like it anyway lol) then we had to take little miss to the dr for a checkup and her 2 month shots (it hurt me more than it hurt her i think.)
Echo got Lots of training in. There was another service dog at the Mall that barked at us, and he did great. He didnt bark back, but did jump backwards because it spooked him a little. He recovered fast, and did great all 3 times we crossed paths with the dog again. In the photo of him by the car you can see he was holding a stay while a lady was playing with her puppers across the parking lot. He looked, but never tried to go over and see them. (He is teathered to the car... dont worry. Lol)
All around it was a long but pretty good day. ♡ Im more proud of him every single day.

14/12/2016

Our first real "team photo."

12/12/2016

Echo taking care of me while i fed the baby at the airport. There was a little yappy dog right next to us, and he was excellent in ignorong it! He's really becoming an amazing service dog.

11/12/2016

Went to the airport today to pick my brother up, then met a fellow akita service dog hadler for dinner! It was a great day. Echo's first time in an airport and he was perfect!

08/12/2016

First dusting of snow and Echo is now fully charged and ready to go into major bork drive!

05/12/2016

Echo not only alerted me to a seizure yesterday, giving me plenty of time to get to a safe place... but i was told right after i started seizing, he, Without being lured, went to my side, and helped me slowly fall down before i went into full convulsions. Once someone showed up to take over, he calmly moved to my feet and waited out the convulsions. Once i sat up, he placed himslef in front of me and sat IN my lap immobilizing me until i was fully aware and out of the seizure completely. All of this 100% on his own. I'm amazed with him. Only 6 1/2 months into training... he is phenomenal.

28/11/2016

So... Echo was amazing as usual yesterday. I'd been feeling off kilter all morning, and when we made it to our service dog meetup i was still very off. I was seated for a while when Echo jumped up like something bit him on the arse, and he put his head in my lap (pretty typical alert for him)
Not wanting to make a scene i didnt say anything to anyone. I just sat there hoping for the best... next thing i knew i was outside.
I was told i had a seizure, then panicked when someone tried to help me... and Echo calmed me down and took me outside. I was completely dissociated. He safely removed me from the building and had me seated on a bench... im just so proud of him! When we got back in he checked in on the baby, then put his head on the stroller and slept the rest of the time. ♡
