When you start working for another not-for-profit in addition to running your own and you realize your cute critter sharing skills are seriously slacking as of late! 🫣

Everyone meet Cleopatra and Cherí! 🥹

We took them in last month after their owner went though a difficult loss and no longer felt she could provide for them in the way she wanted to. 🫶

They are wonderfully acclimated into one of our mischiefs including Brownie, Prudence, and our very happy neutered boy who is getting all the snugs from the ladies - Potato! 🥔

Everybody, meet Brownie! 🥰

This little lover is almost 3 years old and our newest rescue! 🥹

She is one of those special rescue cases where we can wholeheartedly say her previous owner sincerely loved and gave her the best life. 🫶

Unfortunately, her cage mate recently crossed over the rainbow bridge and her family is not planning to continue owning little ones. 🌈

Being that rats are super social + emotional animals who require companionship, (they are actually known to grieve the passing of their loved ones) they brought her to us. ❤️

On top of that, they donated her critter nation and so many amazing supplies to the rescue. ✨

We are beyond grateful they trusted us to care for her in her golden years and we only wish more “tails” could be this happy. 🐀

Meet this sweet Angel who we have lovingly named Hope - due to the events that unfortunately unfolded this morning.

Hope is the teeniest tiniest little girl.

Hope is a little stressed because she just got to the sanctuary yesterday.

Hope is stubborn and decided not to snuggle with her sisters last night.

Hope is the reason her rescue momma almost had a heart attack this morning.

Thank you for sharing the wonderful and the hard parts of owning these beautiful creatures on your page.

It’s only because of a video of yours I’d seen recently that I knew when I found little Hope, curled up in a hide by herself, without a nest, cold and listless that I immediately knew she was most likely dealing with Torpor.

Side-note: If you’re curious what Torpor is, I highly encourage you to watch the video on YouTube channel for an in-depth overview - especially if you live in climates where it drops below freezing.

I got her warm first with body heat, then placed her on a heating pad while hubby put together a salt and sugar water concoction.

At first, she was rigid and could barely open her eyes.

After about 5-10 minutes, she was willing to lick the water off of my finger.

A few minutes later, she started to open her eyes.

Here we are, about two hours later, and she’s eating her millet, drinking water on her own, and cheerfully crawling on me like nothing ever happened.

Rescue is always an adventure, and sometimes, even in spite of doing everything we can, there are some little ones we just can’t save.

Fortunately, when armed with the right knowledge and tools, we’re often able to save far more than we lose.

Please send all the happy healing vibes to Hope and all the little critters out there this holiday season. 🐭❤️

Can we take a moment to “paws” and appreciate one of our newest furry family members? 😍

This little guy and his three sisters made their way to the sanctuary today from a mouse lover who had an “oops” litter. 😱

She wanted to make sure they went to a safe and loving space so we were happy to be of service. 🫶

She is one of the mischief that made me fall in love with and start rescuing rattos. 🥰

She was a bit shy, but overtime she’s grown quite comfortable, as you can see from this photo. 😂

I know it’s a little out of focus, but this scrunchy little man is so dear to my heart. 🥰

Gomez came with Pippin’ (RIH 🌈) and his two brothers Serge and Sebastian. 🐀

He wasn’t a part of their crew, but a stow away who had a nasty respiratory infection that his caregivers didn’t have the means to treat so they brought him along. 🫶

He’s been with us for 5 months now and while he has recovered beautifully, he is blind and a little anxious around other rattos/strangers. 🥺

But he adores his momma and I sure do adore him. ❤️

Please enjoy my snug bug who looks like a dearly loved stuffed animal that has been washed a few too many times. 😅🥹😍

We are elated and grateful that picked us to be their charity of the month! 🥹

Their monthly boxes are packed with amazing treats and boredom breakers designed to make even the pickiest rodent happy! 🥕

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and often times unseen when you first start out in the rescue world. 😔

Ideally, as a non-profit, our little sanctuary would run 100% off of donations and fundraisers. 🥰

Unfortunately, since we are fairly new, we often times find ourselves primarily spending our own resources to provide for our intakes. 😬

While we plan to keep this up for as long as we can, (our endless supply of love is always free, after all.) 🫶

Our vet bills, food, bedding, cleaning supplies, beloved yogis and all of the other odds and ends it takes to keep this place running are unfortunately not. 😅

If you have the means we certainly appreciate any and all donations! 🥹

We’re sorry we’ve been sporadic on social lately! 🥺

Things have been busy at the rescue with sweet Pippin passing after surgery, the speedy intake of Mushroom + Marshmallow, and sweet Cinnamon coming down with an ear infection. 😭

Thankfully we’re gradually getting back into the swing of things. 🙌

AKA: Resuming a reasonably coordinated level of chaos! 😅

Early this morning an amazingly kind-hearted soul came upon this heartbreaking scene.

A pair of young domestic rattos had been left abandoned, in a cage that looked as though it had been tossed from a vehicle on the side of the road.

When she found them, they were completely out of food and water, climbing all over their cage, and looking for help.

Not wanting to leave them in the elements, she brought them back to her place and posted about them on social media.

Thanks to a recommendation, she reached out to us.

Now these sweet boys are sleeping soundly with bellies full of all the best snackies and no worries of being abandoned ever again.

This is not the update I wanted to be sharing.

Sweet Pippin crossed the rainbow bridge about an hour after his surgery yesterday.

While we knew that this surgery was risky, the right thing to do for him, and his best shot at a long and pain free life, it still breaks our hearts that it didn’t go as hoped.

Our kind vet made this sweet memorial including his paw prints, we added the tail.

Thank you to all of you who supported little man’s journey. We are forever grateful.

Goodbye will always be too soon. Until we meet again, my darling ratto friend.

Please keep this sweet baby in your thoughts, prayers, positive vibes, etc. this afternoon.

He went in for his big surgery this morning and while the entire mass was able to be removed he has lost a lot more blood than our vet would like to see.

He’s been closed up and is being given fluids now.

It is a waiting game for the next few hours to see if he will pull through.

Obviously if the prognosis becomes too grim in the meantime we will do what is best to help sweet Pippin avoid any suffering.

We are hoping our boy is a fighter though.

Thank you to all of you amazing people who have followed his journey and donated to make this procedure an option at all. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

He’s Pippin’s brother and he also has some exciting news about our lil tumor man, his surgery is scheduled for Monday, July 18th!

We’re still a little shy of his surgery fundraising goals but we don’t want to wait any longer.
