Sunday morning we had teams Toby, Rodney, Romeo, Luna and Ghost at Moses Gate and we had easily some of their best trailing yet!

We had lovely junction work from Toby & Rodney, fabulous decisions from ghost as he figured out what to do when he enters the scent plume, Romeo continuing to learn the ropes and learning to work through the many distractions his puppy brain wants to engage with, and Luna enjoying some beautiful hunting trails to get back into her groove after a break.

Lots of really hard work from the dogs to solve the trailing puzzles.

Well done teams! ⭐️☺️

Amidst the frozen snow and melting ice we trailed at Moss Bank Park on Sunday morning and we learned that it’s a useful skill if your dog knows how to find your car keys! 😂 (always check the roof of the car )

Rodney was trailing for the first time this year and had a new harness to show off 😊 He worked his junctions so well, even when there was a large open area to figure out. Well done Rodney! ⭐️❤️

Georgie came along for his Introduction and make record progress in record timing! He advanced quickly to unsighted trails, more complex scent articles, and picked everything up unbelievably quickly. When you consider that he finds other dogs and people extremely exciting, the fact that he trailed past those things on his first session is just amazing. He even had a little nap in the car between trails. This guy is going to be a superstar trailer! 💪🏻⭐️

This week our first trailing session of 2025 was kicked off by newbie Molly who completed her Introduction to Mantrailing in icy cold weather, and the dark - dedication!

Molly is a 5 year old cockapoo who finds pretty much everything exciting, so it didn’t come as a huge shock that she really enjoyed herself! She showed great enthusiasm for learning the game, and especially enjoys the find. I really look forward to watching her progress ⭐️👏🏼

Showing newbie Romeo the ropes on our last session of 2024 we had Cece, Roxy, Scout & Garnet.

We had bridges, birds, other dogs, very tame geese and swans and 4 dogs loving every minute!

A great way to end the trailing year - well done teams 💪🏻⭐️

Snow Day! Does your dog love it or loathe it?!

Some dogs love it, some will be unsure and possibly retreat to the safety and warmth of indoors. The best we can do is observe them and keep them safe:

Wrap up warm:
If they do want to go out to play, do they need to wear a coat? Do they need to wear pad protectors/boots? Watch the clock remembering they’re essentially barefoot in freezing temperatures so shouldn’t be out for long.

Observe:
Are they showing signs of cold - shaking, lifting their paws up off the floor? Bring them back indoors to warm up. Remember to dry off their paws when you go inside.

Brain games for indoors:
If they don’t want to go out, or are out for shorter periods than usual, brain games indoors can tire them out just as quickly or quicker than a walk does. Hide food, play tricks, or teach them that new trick you’ve been meaning to try!

And don’t forget about yourself - wrap up warm, remember your fingers, and be careful on any ice!

Does your dog love it or loathe it? Comment below with your snow photos or share how your snow/cold hater is spending the morning indoors! See first comment below for how Xena’s morning is going 😆

Mantrailing is a fun game of hide and seek where you and your dog work as a team to find a hidden person. It is a dog sport that harnesses your dog’s amazing sense of smell, turning it into a really fun activity for both dog and owner.

• all breeds, ages, sizes welcome
• grows your bond with your dog
• ideal for nervous/reactive dogs - all dogs kept on lead and worked individually
• fun & enriching for your dog. It’s a workout for both brain & body

If you’re new to Mantrailing, book an Introduction ticket for any weekend session (start time 15 minutes before stated time), or message us direct and we’ll be in touch with more information.

New year, new hobby with your dog?

01/01/2025

What is Mantrailing?

It’s a fun sport where we hide someone and teach your dog to find them by using just their nose to follow the scent for a fab reward.

There is:
•Lots of sniffing
•Problem solving
•Fun
•Teamwork that builds your bond with your dog

All dogs welcome:
•Big breeds
•Small breeds
•Confident dogs
•Nervous dogs
•Reactive dogs
•Sniffy breeds
•Not so sniffy dogs
•Older dogs
•Puppies

Did I mention it’s fun?!
You meet like-minded dog people, work as a team with your dog to grow their confidence, and you help other dogs on their journey too (sometimes puppies!).

The dogs wait their turn in your car, are always on lead, and don’t come into contact with the other dogs, and there is always someone with the cars, making it totally inclusive for reactive/nervous dogs.

So if you fancy something new to do with your dog this new year, we have a few slots on January dates - book via www.bookwhen.com/leadandfollow

On Saturday we had our last mantrailing session of 2025 and introduced the gorgeous 16 week old Romeo to Mantrailing 😍

Heads turned because who doesn’t stop to stare at a cute puppy?! But he wasn’t all looks, he was all brain too - figuring out what was asked of him really quickly. As such a young dog everything about the world is exciting and therefore distracting, and he even met big birds for the first time, but mantrailing is a great way to introduce things to puppies, with something to focus their brain on so the exciting becomes the neutral and not the overwhelming! And when you’ve got parents who are patient and understanding enough to let you figure things out at your own pace, like Romeo has, you’re onto a winner.

Most importantly he found his trail layers, had a whale of a time and showed he had the makings of a fabulous little trailer. Watch this space as he progresses and grows 🥰⭐️

We had our Xmas Trailing Special on Sunday and what a fun morning!

Teams Dandy, Olive & Nanty found all the presents Santa had dropped from his sleigh, including the Elf who was looking for them, and they found Santa himself by using scent articles he’d also dropped along the way - a glove, his driving license, his magic key, a North Pole coin & a Nice medal he must have been hoping to deliver to me!

We had rain, wind, hail and snow, and we even trailed in a maze, which made the trails very interesting, and the teams aced everything thrown at them.

We finished off with some hot chocolate and snacks with some Xmas tunes while the handlers tried to win a prize for their dog by showing their talent in Santa Darts, Curling and Reindeer Ring Toss (in the wind!).

Team Dandy won the prize but everyone went home with a Xmas goodie bag and a gift from Santa (the least he could do under the circumstances!) 😆

Thank you to all the Teams for making it a great session - the last themed one for 2024 💪🏻⭐️😊

During our Xmas special on Sunday it wasn’t all about trailing - we had time for some festive games, and our competitive side came out while we drank hot cocoa and nibbled on festive snacks!

Team Dandy were the overall winners but all the dogs took home a Xmas goodie bag including a gift from Santa himself.

If you’d like to take part in our next themed event get yourself booked onto an Introduction session in January - dates will be released later this week 🎉

This week Snoopy & Ghost premiered a brand new venue for us at Platt Fields Park, and it was a great place for trailing, which different areas, the lovely lake, and toilets - we hardly ever have toilets! 🤣

Snoopy was on fire, trailing fabulously well, working out where the freshest scent was, and having another go at establishing an indication. Not all days enjoy a sit, and he seems to prefer a standing freeze. He demonstrated his preference beautifully today and now we can work to generalise that in the coming sessions 😊

Meanwhile Ghost was on his its first progression session and coped really well. He’s involved so much from his introduction session last month, it was beautiful to see his confidence increasing so quickly ⭐️😊

It’s also great to see handlers talking me through what they’re seeing and feeling while they trail, so we can improve the team as a whole. Fabulous progress!!

If you’d like to give mantrailing a try, check out the upcoming dates on www.bookwhen.com/leadandfollow and if you have any questions, send me a message 😊

Just 2 tickets left for our Christmas special on Sunday (22nd), I cannot wait for this!

We’re really going to be challenging the dogs with the trails on Sunday - they’ve got to help the elves round up all the presents, and find Santa so Christmas can be saved! Plus there will be Christmas themed scent articles to add a bit of nicely & difficulty to the starts!

But there will be lots of fun too with our Winter Winderland including festive games and tunes, prizes, snacks and hot chocolate. And all the dogs get goodie bags including a gift from Santa himself ❤️

Showing Garnet the ropes on Friday morning were Osian, Scout & Bobbie.

We had some difficult junctions, and for distractions we had a pop-up Christmas Tree Farm, some men trimming the hedges & more squirrels than you can shake a stick at!

All 3 did so well, especially on their second trails once they’d settled into the environment.

Be proud teams - excellent progress 💪🏻⭐️👏🏼
