Last week we had a rainy, dark but fabulous session in Urmston, with a mix of rural and town centre trailing for all the dogs. Tessa worked off both a watch strap and a set of keys and her second trail was her first scent article start. SomeLovely trailing from her, she’s becoming much more focused and confident in her trailing and dealt fantastically well with the junctions in the town centre, especially when she went from enclosed street to open square. Snoopy showed his best trailing to date, ignoring food wrappers, working the busy and breezy junctions really well. He was really focussed and confident, great to see!Bobbie was also showing her most focussed and confident self. In the park she was much more controlled than usual, and turned herself round when she’d followed the scent up a dead end. She worked the town centre junctions confidently with no hesitation even in the open square. Fabulous! Osian had to work through frustration when he chose the wrong side of the bushes and could smell trail layer really close but couldn’t find him. He worked through it and quickly realised he could figure it out himself and doubled back round, really nice to see him working through those moments now.His second trail was similar to one he did about 6 weeks ago and it was lovely to see him much more confident in himself, no hesitation, working through the busy town centre area. Fantastic night of trailing! Well done teams 👏🏼🐾🌟
Most owners would give their right arm for the level of focus Cece has on her owner, and it’s lovely to see, but on her mantrailing introduction workshop it worked against her a little because she struggled to be independent, to take the first step, to do something without being told. She had moments of joy once she got started on a trail but she struggled with the starts still, a little confused. Fast forward to just her second session and wow, after a few weeks to process her learning, she came out the car, no hesitation to take scent or start trailing, finding unknown people really quickly and engaging that fabulous viszla nose. Now her owners are on the best journey with her - they have beautiful focus when not trailing and when they are, she’s having a blast doing what comes naturally to her while building her self confidence. Congratulations Team Cece on persevering and believing in her - the sky’s the limit now! 🎉⭐️🐾If you want to know more about getting started on your mantrailing journey, message us or comment below and we’ll be in touch 🐾😊#leadandfollowdogtraining #canineenrichment #mantrailing #dogsports #mantrailinguk #mantrailingdogs #domorewithyourdog #reactivedogtraining #positivereinforcement #gamesbasedtraining #funwithyourdog #positivereinforcementdogtraining #reactivedogs #positivedogtraining #mantrailingglobal #dogsofmanchester #dogtraining #dogsofbolton #dogsofsalford #viszlasofinstagram #viszla
The environment can throw up lots of distractions, making it harder for the dogs to disengage from & focus on the task in hand. Reggie loves chasing birds, and they were literally dancing in front of him on Tuesday when he was starting off. Really tough. Check out the video to see how he did ❤️⭐️🐾

It’s moments of calm like this one when I realise and appreciate just how far we’ve come. Xena is 3. Until pretty recently sitting in the garden was stressful, and something we couldn’t enjoy. She would react to all the sounds, neighbours, traffic, birds… Now it’s our haven. I can relax, she can enjoy the sun, we can enjoy each other’s company.
Positive reward based training, including Mantrailing got us where we are now, and will take us to the next step we want too. Understanding the emotion behind the behaviours she was displaying, and working below threshold to calm her down and have her experience life in a non-stressful way for her. We’ve worked on our trust and bond through games, and through mantrailing. She’s a happier and calmer dog, she’s a different dog, in fact in some ways she’s unrecognisable.
When you and your dog are dealing with a lot, often “nothing” is the ultimate goal.
