Join our Community Dog Wak Day at Pennypack Park (Pine Road).
Walking your dog is a daily activity that should be enjoyed by both of you. If you would like to connect with other dog owners and improve your dog walking skills these community dog walks are for you.
On Thursday morning (9-10 am) walks focus on heel commands, loose leash walking, and proper social skills for your dog.

Here Nico is working through frustration of threshold training. He can't exit the car until his mind is settled.
How your dog exits the car is how they will be out in public. Notice how Parker is calm and is waiting for the release/exit word. Nico will get there, it's a work in progress as he learns/understands what is expected.

Dakota learned to place her front feet on the object in one session! She also had to do the following commands: come, heel, and place.
The goal of her putting her feet on an object is foot and body awareness. Advanced training is to turn on the object and being aware of the placement of her back feet. This is the beginning training of any type of agility work and/or working dog training.

Welcome Poe!
Poe has joined us to make progress on proper leash etiquette when out and about.
Focus will be on implementing and improving on his basic commands. The foundation of commands builds your communication with your dog. This allows for a better understanding from your dog on what behaviors are appropriate when out in public.

Hike & Train Adventures... this crew did awesome today. They are my youngest crew of dogs.
George: almost 2 years old
Annie: almost 2 years old
Parker: almost 17 weeks old
LuLu: almost 9 months old
Savannah : almost 3 years old
Charlie: 3 years old
They all learn from one another. The older ones help to teach the younger ones how to walk and progress their commands.

Hike & Train Adventures... small dog squad!
Each dog had an individual spot and knows to stay until released. Dakota is learning her stay command and doing a great job!
We start with structure, calmness and focus before hiking and off leash exploring.
P.S. Did you notice they naturally do the look command and are focused on me at the end of the video? Dakota will continue to learn and you will start to nice that she also will naturally be able to focus better. Stay tuned!

Dakota has been working individually with Garth and I. She has been working on her basic commands. Now that she responds to those commands we continue to build and improve the commands.
She is now part of the small dog hiking squad! They will help her to progress with her obedience. Reinforcing trail etiquette which requires the following:
1. Heeling
2. Calmness when needed around activities
3. Passing people and dogs on trail
4. Recall training (come command)
5. Socializing

Dakota is a 6 month old pup that was rescued through http://Ryliesrescue.org. She has found her amazing family. Now the goal is to work on her commands and training. She is smart and I have no doubt she is a fast learner. Welcome Dakota!

Hike & Train Adventures... A working dog needs to be mentally worked. If not, they will find themselves a job to do that the owners will not like. Here Niko is first working on his commands off leash. Then a nice reward of figuring out how to move some heavy logs. He is mentally working hard. The reward of the logs got him overstimulated. We are working on going from overstimulated to calm. This means he can come out of that dopamine hit and calm his brain to focus on communicating through commands. This phase of training commands is where a lot of owners give up and say their dogs are stubborn or not listening. Hike & Train Adventures... recall out of the water. The beauty of a recall is the dog does all the work. Did you notice they recalled right away. Then they got a little derailed in the deeper parts of the water. I marked/verbally rewarded with a "good" . Letting them know they were still on the right direction of following through on the command. These pups have to do a lot of mental work when they are out with me. We are building confidence through commands. Hike & Train Adventures... Building confidence and making choices! Percy has come a long way. He use to bark a lot because of lack of confidence. Now he ventures off on his own and makes choices so he only has to get his feet wet. He likes it the best when he only has to walk through the water. In this video you see him realizing the water was deeper than he likes. So he decided to jump the log and go around. Then you see him go through the shallow part of the next water area.
