Reducing stress levels in your dogs life will help mitigate reactions and escalations that can lead to unpleasant incidents. Dogs that suffer from a lot of stress can result in a myriad of health issues ranging from skin and GI inflammation to serious illness and a shortened life. Again this is a great video on How to brush out knots or Matting! A comb is your best friend! Brush, comb, Brush Comb, then comb every couple of days an then reward those pup's with treats and praise, soon they will look forward to "your special time together"! I hope these are helpful in keeping the pups in shape during this Close down we are all facing! Much love to all! ❤

Please do this daily! When you don't, it keeps building up and gets very raw underneath. If your pets already have large eye boogers build up, use a wet warm wet wash cloth to soften them up and slowly work them away from the skin. You can then use a fine tooth comb to gently pull them away and remember to daily keep clean!
Also this can apply if your pets bum gets di**le berries!

Hello everyone! You are all in my thoughts and I miss your fur babies dearly! I certainly hope everyone is practicing social distancing bunkered down for the next month!

I have not seen a lot of what you can do for your pets grooming during this quarantine so I thought I would share some helpful information for you all this week.

This first post picture shows where the most important spots to brush are on your pets if you like keeping their coats long and fluffy! Those red areas are the first places and most important places to brush! We know not all of our pup's enjoy brushing, but by the end of this long month ahead of us, you can change their opinions with a little help with some rewards.

Make sure to have some tiny bite size treats to reward them with, they will soon learn that their patience is rewarded. Peanut butter is another great reward, and it takes time to lick up. Please make sure your peanut butter does not contain xylitol!!!! Xylitol is poisonous to dogs and cats!!
( Look up lick mats on Amazon or here: https://www.bestbuddydogproducts.com/collections/lick-mats?gclid=Cj0KCQjwsYb0BRCOARIsAHbLPhH10HEpB2GI9NOdkGBvnNFSnQ2fNzi45_BZ6tuNdOFrTGxwaylOdWcaAreiEALw_wcB )

I hope this information is helpful. I will continue to find good information and quality videos on how to keep your pets grooming maintained while we are self quarantined!

Much love to you all and hugs to my fur kids!

Hey everyone, let's spread this!

When we narrowed down Ollie’s location we contacted Epic Animal Recovery to help us attempt to trap him. We made a lot of progress and almost caught him! When New Years Eve arrived Ollie got spooked by fireworks in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, he didn’t return back to the area.

This is such an important subject! I have seen first hand the effects of Dogs falling/Jumping out of moving trucks and it is never pretty! Please educate yourselves and others on this!

Riding in a truck bed or cargo area can seriously injure a dog and the number of dogs killed each year reinforces why some states have laws making this illegal.

Please come on out this morning, Open house starts @ 10 am! Bring the pups out to meet Sandra & her team!

So I posted this to my page and FB would not let me share it, so I copied it. . Jack's last night as my Guard dog at Bark Avenue. Fishing up and getting his last spa night here! So bitter sweet!

My Thanks for yesterday, today and every day! Sorry very long!

This has been my life for 19 years.

Elaine, JC, Mary and I had painted our empty box yellow. Buddy and I were standing walls up 19 years ago this week. I learned how to pull wires with Carol. Layed tile floor where the bathroom floor had to be Jack hammered to tie into plumbing in the foundation. Mary and I did all the tapping, mudding & sanding of the drywall. I became a Jack of many trades! I ended up with pneumonia from the drywall dust! Mom tried to keep us fed and keep Mary and I calm in chaos.
We waited tirelessly for the city inspectors so we could move on and got set back on our opening date. We missed the christmas grooming season and opened January 2nd.2001.

It all started with my mother and her instilling me with the love if nature and animals, something that she and my father shared.
I raised hamster's and sold the back to the pets stores in town, then it was Keeping aquariums and breeding and selling fish. I was a pet shop ju**ie. I rode my bike from Roxie Ave to Westwood pet shop and to Eutaw shopping center to hang out. Bud Tyndall owned Westwood Pet shop and he became my first mentor His wife hired me and I started my career in the pet industry as a Bather in 1981 I met many people who moulded me into the groomer I eventually became. Janet, Cindy and finally Nancy took me under her wings and taught me! I am so thankful for her guidance! ❤
I worked as a Pet store manager and groomer only doing request dogs for many years before
switching to just grooming in 1991. In 1997 I started working for Dr. Wright, she really changed me and how I looked at grooming. She took me to my first grooming conference. My eyes were opened and I evolved into a much better groomer. I also incorporated what I learned in the hospital dealing with and learning more with skin and the health of the dogs with compassion grooming do to illnesses and injuries. Yes Dr. Wright also became a Mentor and I Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your role in my success! I have continued over the years to attend grooming shows/conferences to continue to grow and keep up with changes. I have studied the chemistry behind shampoos and conditioners. I enjoy sharing and educating what I have learned with both staff and clients. Why? Because I want both what is best and enjoyable for the pets! That's who I am! I am the groomer who loves your pets!

I am thankful for the best staff over the last 19 years. Forgive me if I miss someone, know that I am thankful for all of you! I remember my first hires like it was yesterday, Kim and Saye! Y'all were my first Angel's in disguise. I have always tried to build and instill teamwork. I would not have lasted 19 years without great employees and teams! one if my early teams was Michelle, Jessica and Kristina! We had so much fun in the early years. Kristina was part of the team with Lynn, Virginia, Beth & Candy also. For several years Ok, Chanda and Cindy joined the Bark Avenue family around the same time my Niece Brittany started while she was I high school and eventually learned to groom and she worked here over 9 years over the years. She was joined during her years by Maranda Mallory, Stephanie, Brittney, and my nephew Robby! The last 2 years Erin joined us and has proved to be invaluable. Erin will stay on with Bark Avenue and I am relieved she will continue to spoil my babies! I have been so blessed to have loyal and Dedicated employees who as you can see have become family to me! Thank you!

I am so thankful for our clients. We have the best clients and the best pets! We love being greeting by all our wagging tails & happy kisses! There is nothing better than loving what you do for a living and get to do it every day! Your pets have also gotten me through some of my worst days. After my mother had her stroke and Mary and I became her caregiver. Your pets licked my tears away and brightened my days. You were all so patient with me during her illness and our journey for 13 years. I would have to cancel for medical emergencies during those years more often than I would have liked. Thankyou for understanding even when it was inconvenient.

Your pets gave me hope and love. They kept me coming to work during my worst days after my Mother passed in 2015. They were part of my healing process. Thanks for sharing your pets with me and our staff! Know they are part of my family in my heart. Forever!
I am going to miss all of my clients! Each One of you!. Some of you I have know since the days of Westwood pet shop, Kritter Korral and Shampooch. I am now grooming your kids dogs and watching your grand kids grow up! Thanks you for your friendships!

Now, I am thankful for the best thing ever in my life and one of the reasons I have chosen to sell and move away from my home. In 2017 I was blessed to be able to be united with my siblings! I also got to meet Aunts, Uncles and cousins. I see how much I missed
by not knowing my family!

Life is to short to have regrets. So Last year I started making decisions to move closer to them. I will first go to Monroe , to Shawn and Gail's for a couple of months while I Secure a new Job! Then I will move on.

I will he changing the Name of Bark Avenue's page. I have millions of pictures of your pets from over the years. Once I get somewhat settled I will start sharing and turn our page into more of an educational page about grooming and my Days taking care of our 4 legged family!

Lastly I am thankful to my friends! You are my chosen family. The ones who have seen my highs and Low's. I will miss each of you more that you will know. It won't be goodbye, just see you later. We will still chat and have facebook. You never know I may end up back here one day! For now though, this is my journey! December will be a busy Month, finishing up moving my stuff to storage and tying up loose ends.

We will have to plan some nights out to celebrate our friendships! Let's start some plans!

It has been my upmost pleasure to have spent the last 19 years here at Bark Avenue keeping our family of pups groomed and cared for! I consider them all family!! Yes, we worry about your pets as if they are our own, that is what family does!
Wow, doing the math I realize I started as a bather in 1981, that was a long time ago. I have been working in the pet industry for over 37 years now. Some of you have been clients for many of those years and I now groom your kids pets too! What a pleasure that it is to say.

Please know that as your groomer, I have always put your pups health & safety first. I am thankful to you all for having chosen myself & the Bark Avenue team over the years! I could have never done this without my staff! I am so thankful to all our present and past team members that we have had over the years! I thank each of you for your hard work and integrity! I will fondly look back on these years forever!

Effective 12/1/2019 Bark Avenue will have a new owner. We will be announcing within a few days an open house date for everyone to come and join Erin & I in introducing you to the new owners! Erin plans to stay on with the new owners & I will be here for a couple weeks in December to help facilitate a smooth transition for everyone, especially our pups!
