So the trap was too small, she did go in but then got out... gonna need a bigger trap
Cheeks is adjusting no longer confined, not an aggressive bone in his body! Big ol" teddy bear!! Yes he is FIV!! So what?!
We got an urgent call today, a cat in distress. One of our volunteers rushed to help. Unfortunately he died before we reached the vet. For those of you still insisting cats are better off outside this cat starved to death from an infected wound that made it impossible for him to eat. He mattered, rest in peace Paco even though we never knew you. we buried him at our sanctuary.
Cheeks is coming tomorrow!!
Checking in on our lemurs. Thats Ike, he was confiscated by the USDA from a terrible hoarding situation. He was kept in a small box for 3 years. He could not climb when he arrived at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and after 6 months he was well enough to be put on an airplane to us. He was morbidly obese and developed "breasts" even though he is a male. They were so bad that they touched the ground when he was moving on all fours. He refuses to go into any shelter. We think from PTSD from being in a box. He chases Ringo a lot and gets more exercise that way now that Ringo joined the group. In winter we have to put a heat lamp so that he can sit in front of it instead of cuddling in the shelters with the other lemurs. We hope one day he will learn from the others.
Ringo is exhibiting exactly the behavior we don't want but this is due to being kept at a young age as a pet by himself. He is aggressive towards humans and bit his previous owner in a State where it is illegal to have them as pets He is the most aggressive lemur we have here. This behavior is not good stress and not cute at all. Very sad. When lemurs grow up with their biological parents they are actually friendly towards humans. That is not to say they are good pets. In any case our 6 lemurs have a permanent home here. Ringo was confiscated by animal control, sent to a zoo and then to us. Too bad the people that buy these animals for thousands of dollars do not donate that kind of money to our sanctuaries that pick up the pieces. Lemurs can live a long life at least 30 years in captivity if not inbred and healthy.
We had a breakthrough with a little girl named Irina. She has become quite affectionate and if anyone is interested in adopting her we think, with the right cat person, she will be a great new family member. She was rescued from a large feral colony in Wauchula where we removed about 80 cats in total. Apply to adopt online.
Rose and Jasmine are available to adopt together!! Very affectionate kittens. Apply online to adopt!
Cheeks is coming to us next week!! He is FIV positive and has been through a LOT!! We are collaborating with Fix and Feed Feline on this one!!! We sure hope we find some very special human being that can give him the forever home he deserves!! He had a dental and surgery on his eyes to correct a condition that was obstrcting his vision. He has been a trooper!!!
Its just too cute these two and how insecure they are about each other but Blu is very gentle.

Cute Blu and Rose, both cats are still learning to be social.
Blu is now completely better and a bit too spunky for little Rose who is learning social skills. Blu has been " an only child" and has to learn how to get along with others. Blu has a tendency to playbite with human hands which is not great but generally he is just a misplaced cute loving boy who was abandoned by his human family of 4 years. What really pisses me off is that the rescue was very willing to take him back so there was no reason to throw him on the street!!

Besides cat rescue I do have exotic animals that call our sanctuary home right now. This our Sulcata John. We finally were able to get a "soaking pond" for him. Still looking for someone that can make a concrete one for him with a drain system but until then this will need to be sufficient to allow him to soak.
I think Calypso is now ready for her new home. She does NOT like other cats. Needs a home with no other cats. Estimated at about 5/6 years old. Spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Apply to adopt online at www.duetteanimalrescue.org.
Please share!! Rose and Jasmine are ready for adoption!!
She is eating, a good sign...
This is done with a photo of me and AI!! Creepy how realistic this is!!
Remember Callie? She and her kittens were rescued from a mobile home park where we cleaned up an 80 cat colony where cats and kittens were disappearing daily and at risk from disease and injury from free roaming dogs and cars flying by. She is very loved in her new home!!
So now that Cairo is much better, we have to tackle cleaning her up a bit. Her super strong purrsonality has now emerged and after not eating for a while she is now super food and cat aggressive. So her eyes are still healing and I apply antibiotics carefully, and since she is white she gets really dirty fast. She will only take a little TLC at a time, so work in progress. But for now, we have a brandnew cat in the house that attacks pretty much everybody, even me when she forgets who saved her life lol!!!
Here is Calypso!!! She is still getting stronger and we hope someone will adopt her!! She does not like other cats, needs your undivided attention. Likes to ride on your shoulder!!
