As we wrap up Vet Tech Week 2024, we hope you have enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about our our amazing technicians and to see just a small part of what they do for the Watermark Equine Team!
When you see Kelci, Maya, Mel, and Olivia out in the field, be sure to say hi and thank them for their contributions toward keeping your equine partners happy and healthy! 💙🐴💙 #everyweekistechweek
Happy Vet Tech Week! Our techs play an integral role in keeping things organized. From paperwork to ensuring that all equipment and supplies are in their proper place, our techs do it with style and efficiency!
Today we celebrate Olivia Capuano! After earning her Bachelors degree in equine business management and riding from Johnson & Wales University, Olivia honed her skills in both small and large animal hospital settings. Olivia combines her love of horses and her organizing talents as Dr. Emily Bruschi's technician.
When not working, Olivia can be found hunting for oversized Halloween decorations and spending time with her rescue dog, Spike.
Thank you, Olivia, for all that you bring to the team at Watermark Equine!
Happy Vet Tech Week! Our techs are essential team members, assisting with exams, preparing diagnostic testing, taking X-rays, and preparing horses for treatment.
Today is dedicated to Mel Schaffer! With a Bachelors in equine business management and riding from Johnson & Wales University, Mel has extensive experience in both large and small animal hospital settings. Mel divides her time between Dr. Erica Rosen's truck in Connecticut during the summer and assisting the Florida team during the winter.
When not at work, you can find Mel hiking 🏔 with her rescue dog, Kenai, riding, or spending time with her family.
Thank you, Mel, for all the hard work and compassion that you bring to the Watermark Equine team!
Happy Vet Tech Tuesday! Our techs are so much more than just smiling faces. They play an invaluable part in keeping the days running smoothly for our team.
Today we feature Kelci Orr! Kelci graduated Magna Cum Laude from Post University in equine business management and certification for equine vet assisting. After many years as a technician, Kelci has shifted to a hybrid role, dividing her time between Dr. Erica Rosen's truck and our Connecticut office. She excels at facilitating, always ready to jump in when needed with her signature unflappable style and good humor.
Outside of work, Kelci can be found in the gym or with her barrel horse, Samson.
Thank you for all that you do for Team Watermark!

Quill Chronicles: Shockwave Therapy
Today I finally learned what the loud machine does… let me tell you about Shockwave therapy!
According to my Mom(s?) Shockwave starts as an electrohydrolic force which transmits acoustic energy through the skin. The unit does not create an electric impulse like the name might suggest, but rather a mechanical shockwave.
Shockwave therapy has two main modes of action. First, it works on nerve endings which will often give an immediate reduction in pain. Second, the shockwaves simulate controlled micro-trauma to the tissues, signaling the body to initiate or ramp-up the molecular healing process. The shockwaves can also assist in the breakdown of disorganised tissue and calcifications.
I think I’m pretty close to earning my DVM 💁
