WE KNOW OUR FUR BABIES BEST FOLKS!!! NEVER STOP ADVOCATING FOR YOUR PETS!

We spent our weekend in and out of the ER. If I wasn’t persistent; demanding there’s something wrong with my dog, our Charlie may still be suffering. Here’s our story below.

After being cast aside at our first visit to the ER Saturday afternoon, I was not happy. Charlie presented with a fever of 103, extreme lethergy, anorexia for 24hrs, listlessness and diarrhea. They preformed no diagnostics and tried to send us home to monitor with metronidazole for his stool. I demanded blood work. I was told by doctor bloodwork was totally normal. We went home still worried about our boy, told to monitor.

Fast forward a few hours later Saturday evening Charlie ate chicken and rice for dinner but his fever increased to 105.2 and the lethargy and mobility issues became even more worrisome and terrible to watch. Helpless and with most ERs having a 6-8 hour wait Greg and I stopped for coffee at Wawa and went back to the ER and waited until 4am. He was never seen by a doctor. We took him home worried for his well-being even more. We were all exhausted.

Sunday morning he ate breakfast but again he was extremely lethargic and his mobility issues were even worse. Back to the ER we went for a THIRD TIME. I walked in demanding a 4DX test at the very least which tests for tick borne diseases and heartworm. Two hours later he’s finally been seen by a doctor and was quickly diagnosed with Anaplasmosis, also know as dog tick fever, which attacks the joints and bloodstream. He will be treated with a 30 day course of Doxycycline (an intense antibiotic), anti-nausea meds and fluids etc. We were told his blood work was normal but there was apparently a low level that was ignored and not looked into which correlates with this disease.

Charlie is on a ver effective flea and tick preventative. But nothing is 100%.

I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY DOG. STICK TO YOUR GUT AND NEVER STOP ADVOCATING FOR YOUR PETS! Don’t give up. You know your pets best.

Attaching a simple google search of Anaplasmosis below. Every single symptom listed we expressed to the doctors Charlie was exhibiting. I’ve worked in the field. I’ve never worked in a hospital that didn’t right off the bat run a test for these diseases. Disappointed is an understatement. He’ll now be under the care of his primary vet moving forward.

WE LOVE YOU CHARLIE 💗

Ruby learned a cool new task in just one week! Her handler used the foundations of the retrieve that we've taught her to easily teach Ruby how to bring her a cane. This is such a valuable task. So excited for the future of this team and all the learning to come!

Two-year-old Patron works with rescuers in the northern city of Chernihiv, where he sniffs out Russian bombs (in addition to warming laps, nipping sleeves and generally being a good boy).

Who doesn’t love a doodle? They are comical, friendly, low-shedding, and now more than ever they are in high demand. Sadly, many people don’t realize the inhumane care and treatment that many of these doodles suffer. Doodle puppies bring top dollar in local pet stores and online puppy sale websites. The sellers are creative and hire professional photographers to take adorable, eye-catching pictures. Unsuspecting buyers show up at pristine farms being assured that the puppy they are about to “adopt” has been raised in their home. Often times young children will be outside playing with the litter of puppies when the buyer arrives. Pet store staff is adamant that their puppies haven’t been raised in puppy mills, but that’s not true. This is all part of the game! What pet stores and commercial breeders don’t want you to know and certainly don’t want you to see are the breeding dogs and the conditions in which they live. The pictures below are a male Bernese Mountain Dog / Standard Poodle mix also known as a “Bernedoodle” that produced many, many litters of puppies right here in a PA kennel. His puppies fetched high dollar price tags at his expense. He lived a life of confinement and neglect, but nobody cared because he continued to produce some of the most sought-after doodle puppies on the market. His life of neglect ended the day he arrived at the MCSPCA. Unfortunately, thousands of other dogs in the Commonwealth of PA aren’t as lucky as he was. These dogs continue to be used in commercial kennels to produce in demand “designer breeds”. YOU have the ability to end this neglect by refusing to purchase puppies from pet stores and online puppy sale websites. Puppy sales are very lucrative and if there is demand the neglect and suffering will continue. Please visit www.victoriaslaw.org to learn more about how YOU can help put an end to the suffering of breeding dogs in PA’s puppy mills.

đŸŸ Meet Archie đŸŸ

I've been working with him since he was just 8 weeks old. His owners did not train their previous dog but after having to buy all new furniture, with him they wanted things to be different. One of the biggest things that I recommend to all puppy owners is to use an exercise pen (x-pen). The x-pen gives your puppy their own space to play and relax while being confined so you don't have to worry about them chewing on undesirable items. As you can see in the photo Archie loves it!

One word, PLAY! If you're not playing with your dog with either toys or other games you're missing a huge part of your potential relationship with them. Libby could be described as "mouthy". Turns out she just needed more outlets in that area. Tug is a wonderful option for her and she loves it!

đŸŸ Meet Lilly đŸŸ

Lilly is a 7 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi from a very reputable breeder, Susan Strickland of Honeyfox Corgis. Lilly has an amazing temperament and is wicked smart. We are working on solidifying her recall, moving towards a variable reinforcement schedule with other known commands, and how to best utilize her love for toys. Due to her fluffy coat she didn't make the cut for the show ring but she's going to be an awesome pet for her family!
