Little Dash has had a hard two
weeks. We found her struck down in the paddock with Rota
virus. Two day of treatment and hydration therapy and she
seemed well enough to go back to mum. But later on that
Sunday afternoon we found her frothing at the mouth, walking
round in circles and running into fences. Poor Mumma, Ellie,
was beside herself. We had already tuned fluids, hoses her
down and placed ice packs on her when the vets arrived.
Temps of 41.9 (42 and they are gone). Dr Claire sedated her,
gave muscle relaxers and hit the infection with strong
antibiotics. By this stage Dash had lost most of the hair on her
face due to the stress on her little body.
Sunday night, 1am, Dr Claire was back with IV fluids. Two days
in the kitchen with some improvement, then little Dash started
fitting. Fits every few hours lasting about a minute each time.
So back with the vets. Steroids, more sedation and fingers
crossed. The fitting continued and Dash stared walking into
walls, uncontrollable head and young movements. I must
admit, it did not look great.
Dr Claire threw herself into tease arch and came up with a
concoction that covered all our last remote possibilities. Poor
Dash was like a pin cushion and you wonder if you are being
selfish continuing to try. But the seizures did stop, snd in a few
days the neurological impacts subsided. Here is Dr Claire with
little Dash yesterday. We can't thank Claire enough for staying
the course with us. Many would have told us 'Enough is
enough'. Dash is currently blind, but we believe even her sight
can come back over time. And until then she will be well cared
for. Thanks so much to Dr Claire, and the Tatura Vets. You are
a much valued part of our team.
