My name is Clare and I was an Animal Care Lecturer for more than 10 years in a Further Education College. I am Degree Qualified BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour & Welfare. This Company has been set-up and uses the name of my beloved Rescue Dog Larry, a beautiful Lurcher who sadly passed away in 2018 after a short battle with Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia (IMHA).

It’s been a warm one! 🌞
But my regulars have happy faces!
🐾Short / slow walks in the shade in the morning before temperatures raised for toileting and a sniff about
🐾Pavement walking avoided wherever possible
🐾 plenty of water offered and fresh water provided
🐾 indoor cuddles / play
This week is looking like a warm one!
Keep walks short, and avoid hottest parts of the day.
Provide more enrichment opportunities e.g frozen ice blocks / kings containing dog friendly frozen “smoothies” / dog friendly ingredient “fruit cocktails” (Dogs Trust have some fab ideas on their website) 🕶️
For dogs struggling with the heat consider cooling pads and ensuring they’re in a well ventilated area / coolest part of the house for rest periods.

Most people believe it will never happen to their dog, yet every year dogs continue to die in hot cars ⚠️
Polling from the RSPCA (England & Wales) has revealed that only 58% of people would NOT leave their dog inside a car on a warm day, meaning more than 40% may potentially put their pets at risk!
Please don’t gamble with your dog’s life. Even if you're leaving them in the car for a minute or two, this could still lead to tragic consequences for your dog. Even if you're parked in the shade with the windows open, a car can still quickly heat up to dangerously high temperatures 🌡️
Remember: 'not long' is too long.
If you see a dog in a hot car showing signs of distress such as panting heavily, drooling excessively, appearing lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated, collapsed or vomiting, dial 999 immediately.

With the recent drop in temperature it’s important that not only you wrap up warm and take precautions when outside but that your pets stay happy and safe too. Here are some tips for pet owners during the winter season. Coats – whilst some dog breeds have a double coat and or are more suited [.....
Despite their furry coats, our little friends need extra TLC when the temperatures drop ❄️
As the cold weather starts to creep in, here are some tips from our Vets to keep your small furries warm 🥰
🌨️ If your pets normally live outdoors, bring them in to a sheltered area, that is away from draughts, such as a shed or car-free garage protected from rain and snow.
☀️ Even in cold weather, your pets need access to natural light and an exercise run.
🐹 Keep them cosy. All small pets should have extra bedding over winter so make sure there’s plenty, that it’s dry and very deep so they can snuggle right down.
🛏️ Place an animal-safe heat pad under their bedding for extra warmth.
🧊 Be sure to keep an eye on their water sources, ensuring they don't freeze.

It was a blustery one today! As Yoshi is perfectly Demonstrating with the wind swept look 😃
Not all dogs like / cope well in the windy weather but this little man was not phased by it.

In the glow of twinkling lights so bright,
A canine tale on this festive night.
Beneath the tree, a world so grand,

Avoid Pet poisoning this Christmas🎄
The British Veterinary Association - BVA recently reported:
🍫Three-quarters (76%) of vets reported seeing cases of chocolate-based poisoning
🍇69% seeing dogs taken ill after eating raisins or sultanas.
🍬Almost one in five (19%) reported cases related to the artificial sweetener xylitol (be careful as this is found in some peanut butters!)

Rock Salt and Dogs
Rock Salt (sodium chloride) and grit are used to de ice roads and paths in the colder weather. While this is great for us, it can be dangerous for our dogs.
Not only can it cause pain and irritation to paws but, if ingested it can make a dog very poorly with high blood sodium levels leading to possible kidney damage. To try and prevent this, wash your dog's paws off immediately after a walk with warm water and dry thoroughly.
Symptoms of rock salt poisoning can be:
🔺Extreme thrist
🔺Vomiting
🔺Lethargy
🔺 Seizures
If you suspect your dog may have ingested rock salt or, notice any of the above symptoms, contact your vet immediately.
